With the blisters of the 2014 season only just healed, the 'Wise-guys' and 'Wise-birds' are getting ready for the return of rowing once again from Wiseman's Bridge Inn.

During the summer season, the sight of Wiseman's Bridge Rowing Club launching from the beach outside the inn has become a common one and something of an entertaining spectacle for locals and tourists alike.

From October until April, the fleet of three Celtic longboats and the old faithful Pembrokeshire longboat find new winter homes to allow winter training to continue, albeit slightly more restricted than during the spring and summer months when boats are launched nearly every night of the week if weather allows.

During the winter, crews have busied themselves with regular crew rowing sessions held on indoor rowing machines at Pembroke Leisure Centre.

These sessions have proved very popular and other local clubs, Llanion Warriors Rowing Club and Tenby Rowing Club, having also made good use of these facilities, and hopefully the new TLC will also provide a similar resource in the future.

The 2014 season will go down in the club's history as its busiest and most successful season in its 21-year existence.

With over 60 members, and with an incredible age profile from 14 to 66 of both genders, not many sports can boast such an inclusive activity that allows everyone to get involved!

The club stats for 2014 are impressive, with 24 events attended around Europe (Italy, Ireland, London, Plymouth), over 2,700 miles of towing, 52 races entered, with a combined total of 115 boats raced across all categories, which resulted in 21 trophies and over 700 miles of racing (not including the hundreds of training miles).

Even though 2014 was a busy year and everybody achieved so much, particular highlights were - again successfully completing the legendary Celtic Challenge rowing event from Arklow to Aberystwyth and in doing so raised £2000 for RNLI; fnishing third in the highly competitive Welsh Sea Rowing Association League; entering the European fixed seat championships in Italy and getting a fifth place finish in the men's final category; finally, the ladies crew who missed winning the Welsh league by an oar's length, but took London by storm and smashed the Great River Race record for a ladies Celtic crew to bring the prestigious trophy home to Wiseman's Bridge Inn.

The 2015 season is already booking up with exciting events around the country, starting on Friday, March 27, with a 'beach clean' from Wiseman's Bridge Inn at 4.30 pm in association with Surfers Against Sewage 'Big Spring Beach Clean Campaign' (http://www.sas.org.uk/news/campaigns/big-spring-beach-clean-2015/">www.sas.org.uk/news/campaigns/big-spring-beach-clean-2015/)

Wiseman's Bridge Rowing Club are also looking to be the first sea rowing club to be involved with the new Pembrokeshire County Council sport project 'INSPORT' in association with Disability Sport Wales (DSW) to offer rowing to young adults with disabilities.

On the back of this, two club members are attending a British rowing coaching course which will also allow the club to facilitate a junior section.

The club would like to thank the Wiseman's Bridge Inn Kemble family for their ongoing support, and also the many local businesses who have, over the years, supported the club.
