Whitland won a very exciting Ormond Youth Plate Final by four runs against a Stackpole side who never gave up. Chè Thomas was the Whitland hero by only conceding two runs off the last over of the game when Stackpole needed six runs to win. Geriant Jones scored 85 off 49 balls with 13 fours and one six out of a Whitland total of 146 in their first innings. Iori Roberts was Stackpole's main wicket-taker with 4 from 32 off his four overs. Whitland then restricted Stackpole to 98 for 5 in their first innings, with James Thomas bowling a tight spell with 3 for 18 off his four overs. Only Iori Roberts with 30 off 33 balls with five fours held the Stackpole batting together. With a lead of 48 runs, Whitland were bowled out for 82 in under 14 overs with a fine spell of bowling from Greg Thompson with 5 for 11 and Dewi Roberts 3 for 15. Only Gethin Benjamin with a solid 27 with three fours got the Whitland innings to 82, leaving Stackpole 131 to win the game. Stackpole got off to a good start with 84 off 10 overs, with Iori Roberts 16 and man of the match Greg Thompson 63 off 43 balls, including 11 fours and one six, but then good bowling from Geriant Jones, 2 for 12 off four overs, and James Thomas, 2 for 31, pegged Stackpole back, before Chè Thomas, 2 for 8, saw Whitland home in a tight finish. The game was played in a very sporting manner and both sides deserved credit for that. The umpires for the day were Robert Ridge, of Burton, and Glyn Pawlett, of St. Ishmaels, with Anne Marie Jenkins and Phil Tallett being the scorers. Lawrenny Cricket Club provided an excellent tea and the ground looked fantastic and a good day's cricket was had by all.
