Ironman Wales - held in Tenby and surrounding areas across Pembrokeshire has come up trumps at the annual ‘Athletes’ Choice Awards’ - proving again that the trialthlon is one of the world’s most renowned and spectacular sporting events.
Yet again, Ironman Wales, held in and around the seaside town of Tenby, has proved its ‘bucket list’ race status by being voted the second ‘Most Recommended’ race out of 40+ triathlons globally, beating far-flung finalists such as Brazil, Malaysia and Philippines.
Not only that, but the race also ranked in the top 5 for the ‘Overall Event Satisfaction’ category, and, proving that our athletes really relish in a challenge, the 2450m+ bike course, was voted 5th in Overall Bike Course globally.
In just its second year, Ironman 70.3 Swansea showed that it too is on its way to bucket list territory by being voted the ‘Best Run Course’ in Europe (third globally).
The spectator-laden run course through Swansea’s city centre beat the sea front run on the Aterro do Flamengo at Ironman 70.3 Rio de Janeiro, and the tropical run course of Ironman 70.3 Langkawi in Malaysia.
Sam Brawn, Ironman Regional Director UK, Ireland and Africa said: “We are immensely proud of how well our Welsh races scored in this year’s Athletes’ Choice Awards.
“It’s a testament to the incredible locations as well as the fantastic support from the locals we see year after year. Racing in Wales should be something every athlete adds to their bucket list, as the Welsh spirit is unrivalled.
“We can’t wait to be back in Wales for Ironman 70.3 Swansea on Sunday, July 14, and Ironman Wales on Sunday, September 22 this year.”
