Last Thursday, Narberth RFC's 1st team squad of 30 players travelled to Carmarthen for a friendly against Carmarthen Athletic.

The evening fixture was a very useful opportunity to try the various combinations and players. Narberth won 14 - 28 and at half-time had a 21-0 lead, initially spending 20 minutes camped on the Athletic's line before the threequarters clicked into action with three well-taken tries by new wingers Tommy Jones and Jason Howells, the latter haviing played one league game last season before moving to Neath.

Half-time saw a big changeover of players. Two very local youngsters in the second row need to be mentioned, namely Tom Bannister, who has come through the Juniors, Youth and the Athletic, and Josh Helps, just returned from South Africa having captained the Wales Under 16s and named Welsh player of the tour. Both played well, giving a good account of themselves.

This season will see the Otters with a predominantly Pembrokeshire 1st team squad.
