After a three year wait the award -winning Trefloyne Junior Golf Academy is back with a bang for 2022 – restructured, relaunched and better than ever. Run in conjunction with Golf Wales and Sport Pembrokeshire, and with provisional support pending from Sport Wales it promises to be an exciting return, already sending out clear signals of how popular golf can be among the next generations.

The Academy, independent of both the golf club and Trefloyne Manor, is a launchpad for children aged between 5 and 16 who are looking either to develop their skills, or experience golf for the first time and find out just how much fun it is, as a healthy lifelong activity.

There are three elements to the Academy programme:

• In the informal fun sessions for beginners, children of primary school age swing a golf club for the first time. These youngsters often come via the extremely popular schools’ programme, where the Academy’s visiting coach gives over 600 children get an introduction to golf within their normal school day, offering a clear pathway to further coaching and on-course play.

• Then there’s the structured, in-depth development programme for improving golfers. Participants here often come up from the fun sessions, enthused and eager to progress.

• And finally there are the elite, competitive squad sessions for experienced juniors.

All sessions are delivered by PGA Level 1 coaches and AAT Professionals and cover Long Term Athlete Development principles of balance, enhanced coordination and core strength, with the over-riding aim of success breeding success.

Local volunteers, all DBS checked and trained through the Wales Golf Activator programme, are there to help out, always following Trefloyne’s Policy on Safeguarding Children and Young People.

The Academy is part-funded by a local weekly lottery, licensed by the County Council with tickets available for just £1 a week or £52 for the year.
