Crymych 23 pts. Tenby United 8
It was a tough day at the office for a depleted Tenby United on Saturday when the GD Harries, FBM Holidays, Kiln Park and Molson Coors sponsored side travelled to play Pembrokeshire rivals Crymych in Division One West.
With several key players missing due to injury or being on Narberth and Llanelli duty, the Seasiders always knew it was going to be a tough encounter.
The Preseli outfit avenged the 21-13 defeat inflicted on them earlier in the season at Heywood Lane as they had a slight edge up front over the United who were forced to re-jig their usual pack, with a few forwards playing out of position.
It didn't all go the home side's way, though, as the Seasiders battled hard for the entire game and looked the stronger of the two teams as the day went on and especially when stalwarts Chris James and Richard Rossiter came on as replacements to add their experience.
The United left it too late to launch any realistic comeback, though, as Crymych went ahead early on and stayed in front for the full 80 minutes, despite the Seasiders producing some good rugby themselves.
The game lived up to the expectations of the large crowd that had gathered to watch what was a typical hard fought derby clash and both sides played with commitment and pride and the full-strength Crymych were delighted to grab the vital win and league points.
Crymych registered the first scores with a penalty from outside-half Sam Phillips, followed soon after by a try from winger Tomos Phillips, who cantered over for an unconverted try.
Seasiders' outside-half, Nico Setaro, on permit from Narberth, reduced the deficit for Tenby with a well-struck penalty, which left them just 8-3 behind at half-time.
Setaro also scored a second half try for the United, which went unconverted.
Crymych kept their lead though through tries from scrum-half Luke Rogers and fullback Gavin Thomas, which were accompanied by a conversion and penalty from Sam Phillipsn which gave his side the win by 23 points to eight.
Tenby United next play on Saturday, March 28, when they welcome Gorseinon to Heywood Lane in a must-win game for the Seasiders, so please make sure you're all there to cheer the boys on and help them to stay in division one with a big win. Kick-off will be 2.30 pm.
Tenby United fielded: Damo Miller, Mark Heywood, Jack Guerreiro, Jack Price, Jordan Asparassa, Nico Setaro, Gruff Jones, Rob Weston, Gareth Jones (capt.), Andrew Cooke, Wyndham Williams, Luke Dedman, Rob Clark, Wesley Bonser, Rob Luly. Replacements - Chris James, Luke Conbeer, Richard Rossiter, Will Crockford, Jonny Palmer.
