Last week, 43 visiting boat crews enjoyed the warm sunny weather with light winds for the National Firefly Event.

Two race days were lost due to lack of wind, but enough races were completed to provide results for the presentation of prizes by Tenby Mayor’s, Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall pictured with the winners.

Congratulations to Paul Kameen and Evie Snedker from Bosham Sailing Club who took first place.

Dinghies - The lovely weather has brought with it light and erratic winds and Saturday’s three races for the August cup were unpredictable.

It’s not often a triangular course requires the competing boats to sail upwind on each leg, sometimes with a bit of running and reaching too.

Three Redwings, an Osprey, an Aero, a Phantom and an RS400 competed.

In overall after three races which saw many capsizes caused variously by sudden complete lack of wind, sudden squall and pilot error the eventual results were a Redwing fest, Mike and Deanna followed by Robin and Dan then Alex and nephew.

Cruiser Sailing - Two yachts ventured south on August 5 to sample the delights of Lundy, Clovelly and Ilfracombe.

Last Sunday four boats raced in the evening in a light WNW wind and returned before dark in time for the fireworks.

Results: 1st, Aries; 2nd, Apatshe; 3rd, Chiron; 4th, Seren.
