Club Sailing
Saturday’s racing was cancelled because of excess wind and rain.
Tuesday evening’s race, the last in the summer series, took place in bright warm sunshine and a mid range declining north-westerly breeze. The poor weather earlier in the day obviously put off a few; only three boats contested the race run by Jaime Bohata, an Osprey (Ted/Lucas), a Laser ( Richard) and a Feva (Igor).
After three enjoyable laps, and as the sun sank over the town, the boats finished in that order.
Junior report
Last week, the Stage 1 and 2 groups continued their training, but a series of short races were organised for all the rest. It was quite eventful, with the safety boats kept busy with capsizes in the strong winds.
On the water Wednesday sailing has now finished, but we hope to put together some winter training, especially in power boats. Watch this space.
Next Wednesday, October 5, there will be the end of season Junior party, including presentation of prizes and certificates Starts 6 pm.
Future junior get-together 6 pm on Wednesday, November 3. Bar open for parents.
On Friday, December 9, there will be the Junior Christmas party starting 7 pm.
Junior Zone Championship at Cardiff
Two of our juniors attended the Zone Championship in Cardiff last weekend. Ioan Thompson, sailing with regular crew Freya from Fishguard, entered in a club Feva.
Against some mighty fine junior sailors, our Feva came in a very respectable second to take silver in the Feva class. And, a hugely exciting sixth place overall in general handicap main fleet. Well done to them.
Oscar Thompson entered his Tera in the Regatta fleet which had quite a delayed start on Saturday due to gusts! When eventually they got out on the water, they enjoyed two races and Oscar took second Tera (silver).
Unfortunately, sailing for the Regatta fleet on Sunday, conditions prevented further racing.
Honda Rib Challenge
Another of our juniors, Mairwen James, spent last weekend visiting the Boat Show at Southampton, where she represented the club and Wales in the Honda Rib Challenge. This is a timed competitive boat handling contest, with entrants having to qualify through their regions to compete at the Boat Show.
Although Mairwen did not win, she put in a very creditable performance in difficult choppy conditions. Young in her age group, Mairwen will hopefully be back for another go in the future.
Club 80th Party
The club 80th party last week was much enjoyed by the many members who attended. Well done to the social committee for organising it, decorating the club and providing the sides for the hog roast served up by the Qube. Music later on was delivered by Max, to the enjoyment of all present.
The clubhouse was thronged with up to 100 members enjoying good company and refreshment to mark a significant occasion.
Winter series
The club`s dinghy winter series will start on the first Sunday in October. There will be two races back to back on each Sunday morning until Boxing Day, weather permitting, starting at 11 am.
Sailors from other clubs are invited. For a charge of £20, visitors will be entitled to enter all races, store their boat in the club dinghy park, and to membership of the club until new year.
