Sailing

Sailing starts this month. The first race, a non points practice race, is at 11 am on March 31, by which time the sun will be shining and it will be 20°. All welcome; take this opportunity to get on the water, sort out the early season gremlins and steal a march on your competitors.

 Regatta

Local solicitors, Lewis Lewis and Co Ltd, of Tenby, St. Clears and Carmarthen (01994 231044), have kindly agreed to sponsor our club regatta this year. The regatta is on June 8 and 9; there will be three races around the buoys on the Saturday and the round Caldey race on Sunday. The event will include an inter-club team race based on teams of five from participating clubs, with all races to count, including the Round Caldey Race on Sunday. The prize for the winning team will be £500. Full details will be posted on the club website.

Junior Training

Junior training sessions will again be run on Wednesday evenings from April 10 to September.

April 10 and 17 will be for registration from 6 pm. Parents/guardians must attend to sign forms etc.

On the water sailing commences on Wednesday, April 24. Please turn up at 5 pm. Normally there will be a briefing at 5.30 pm, with boats on the water by 5.45 pm. Boats usually return to shore around 7.15 pm. BBQ afterwards. Parents can all join in.

All those who came last year are welcome to register, but there will be an opportunity for newcomers to come and try out the sport. The club owns a large number of dinghies suitable for use by beginners right through to experts.

Tenby Sailing Club is an RYA training centre and youngsters will be able to progress through the various youth stages, gaining certificates on the way.

For further information, please ring Blake Shaw on 07717 842713.

Adult Training

Our adult training starts with a Come and Try weekend on May 17/18/19. This is free to members and non-members and is a great chance for those who want to try the sport to have a go on the water, to see if the sport is for them. For those unable to attend the whole weekend, a one-day session is possible.

Following the Come and Try weekend, those keen to continue the sport will be able to arrange further sessions on Saturday afternoons throughout the season.

Opening Hours

The club is open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7 pm during the winter months.

On Saturday, the club was open for the deciding matches of this year's Six Nations rugby championship.

We watched Wales beat England to take the title in such a convincing fashion even our English members applauded!

Forthcoming events

Tomorrow (Saturday): A night at the races. Eight races scheduled, with £1 stake per horse, donation to the RNLI out of funds raised. Hot potatoes will be available at half-time. We are expecting visitors from Saundersfoot Sailing Club and Pembroke Haven Yacht Club, so come on down for a sociable evening for a good cause.

Darts

In the same way Wales demolished England on Saturday, we were taken apart by a very mean darting machine at Cresselly Cricket Club.

Our only success came from the trio of Helen Williams, John 'double-eight, double-eight' Akrill and Marc Shepherd, who won their triples game. The rest of the evening demonstrated the darting prowess of an ostrich.

Captain, Terry Evans, was on such good form that it was safer to stand in front of the dartboard. Apart from the darts, we had a very pleasant evening and were made very welcome by the Cresselly team.

This evening we are at home to the Castle Inn - will we fare any better?

Website

The club's website includes a Facebook link and details of the club's activities and sponsors. We are a friendly and welcoming members club and try to involve all members in a variety of activities, both sailing and social.
