Tenby U7s

On Sunday, Tenby United Under 7s (seen right) travelled to Carmarthen to play two games - one against Carmarthen Quins and the other against Aberystwyth.

The team and mascot Cai looked smart wearing their new shirts which are sponsored by The Hope and Anchor.

The team played exciting rugby and there were some very good tries scored by Harry, Sonny and Ollie.

This week, the team were coached by Nick Guymer and Jimmy Davies, and included Sonny, Jake, Ollie, Harry, Aidan, Ollie, Josh, Iori and Dylan. (Picture includes mascot Cai too!). Well played boys.

Under 9s

The Under 9s (seen right) travelled to Carmarthen Quins on Sunday. Led onto the pitch by captain Alfie, they all played extremely well as a team, and won the game 7-1.

Try scorers were Carter, Issac, Jack, Lewis, Dylan and Alfie. They are really settling in well for their first season of contact. Outstanding tackling and passing from all.

Top tackler for the game was Rhys, and top try scorer was Carter, scoring two tries.

Tenby U10s

Under beautiful blue skies, Tenby Under 10s (seen below) travelled to Carmarthen to take on the Quins, the top team last season. As such, we knew it was going to be a tough draw and the Quins lived up to their reputation by coming out very strongly, scoring two tries in quick succession.

The Red and Blacks fought hard and tackled with determined enthusiasm and as they settled into the game, the Quins had to work harder to make any progress through Tenby’s defence.

Their fantastic rucking and speedy recycling of the ball, however, saw the hosts score two more tries in the first half, all successfully converted, meaning Tenby were trailing 28-0 by half-time.

Whatever Gareth and Rob said to the boys at half-time worked and the second half saw a significant change in dynamics. From the whistle, Tenby were far quicker to the ruck and much more decisive with their passing of the ball along the line, enabling the players on the wing to utilise space and their speed: a great passage of play showing all these skills saw Eddie secure Tenby’s first points on the board. With Ieuan successfully converting the try, Tenby’s heads came back up and they had a new spark about them.

With four subs and players rolling on and off the pitch every few minutes, the boys did very well to keep their shape and positions, showing they could be flexible and adjust quickly to play in a different role.

The second half continued with Tenby dominating a great proportion of the play, Ewan, Rhys S., Cody and Rhydian showing some great strength and bravery in running into the heart of the Quins defence and making good yardage. Some fantastic tackling by Ollie B., Tom Y., Rhys E. and Paddy kept the Quins largely in their own half and enabled speedy hands by Dan, Ollie M., Tom W. and George to feed the ball wider to Ieuan and Eddie on the wing to work their magic.

The improved cohesiveness of the Tenby team saw two more tries in this half, Eddie’s speedy feet getting him his second and Rhydian blasting through the defence for Tenby’s third.

Unfortunately, with no conversion for either try and the Quins sneaking through for two more converted tries of their own, the final score was Tenby 17 Carmarthen 42.

However, this is a scoreline that does not reflect the spirit and determination of the Tenby side and they can be proud of how they performed, coming back so strongly and fighting hard right to the end against a very mature and polished Quins squad. Lots of positives and points to take forward for the rest of the season!

Under 11s

For the second consecutive week, Tenby Swifts Under 11s (seen top right) headed east to Carmarthen, this week to play the Quins.

Tenby won the toss and started brightly, producing some excellent tackling and creating space for Iori to run down the wing and into the corner for a try.

Another soon came when, after strong defensive play from Dylan and Duane Lee, turnover ball from Kyle allowed Iori in for his second.

Tenby were playing some excellent rugby and powerful running from Josh and Miller saw them keep possession and create space for Iori’s hat-trick.

Carmarthen did not lie down and came back with a try of their own. But Iori scored again just before half-time to make it 26-7.

The second half saw much of the same, with both teams determined to keep the scores rising. Three more tries from Carmarthen and two more from Iori and Ollie left the final score 40-26.

A good strong win against a tough Quins side, so well done boys.

Team: Iori, Kyle, Dylan D, Joshua, Duane Lee, Miller, Jake, Alex, Iorri, Dylan J and Ollie.

Tenby U12s

This week, the U 12s (seen below) faced Pembroke at The Clicketts . Conditions were great for running rugby, but the teams were keen to keep the game tight, with strong tackling and rucking from both sides.

Pembroke scored first, but Tenby struck back, with pressure from Niall and Evan leading to an interception try for Rhys. Zak converted to bring the scores level at half-time.

Cai and Niall were switched for Albie and Harvey at the break. Pembroke were again out the blocks fast in the second half with an early score.

Tenby gained yards with runs from Max, Rhys, Evan and Jacob, Kael drove forward and Jasey snipped through to score, with Zak converting to bring the scores level again.

The front row of Cody, Harry and Harrison fared much better in the second half at scrum time, winning a few against the head.

Pembroke pushed hard and, despite rucking and tackling from Jake, Hudson, Denholm and Harvey, they got the crucial winning try.

Jacob went for a break at the final whistle, but was chopped down by the Pembroke cover defence. A cracking game of rugby and thanks to Chris Brace for being our referee this week. Final score 14-21.
