The Wales Triathlon - middle distance and sprint distances was held in Fishguard last Saturday. For the sprint distance, athletes swam one lap of a 750m course in Fishguard Bay which was sheltered by a breakwater on both sides, but very chilly! Followed by a 13-mile cycle to Mathry and back and then a three-mile run lap of a very hilly run up onto the headland, through Fishguard town and along the breakwater to finish on harbour. Vicky Jones finished first lady in a great time of one hour 28.
The middle distance, a Half Ironman Ironman was two laps of the bay, followed by a 56-mile cycle along the A487 to St. Davids turning onto coast road to Abereiddy, Porthgain and Trefin, Mathry and back down to St. Davids for another loop. Back in Fishguard for a four lap run of the sprint distance course - Hayden Johns 16th overall five hours 29, James Mackay five hours 54, Kes Aleknavicious six hours 18 (first in age group), Donna Bradley seven hours 31. Also to Jesse Davies and Lee Simmons who took part, but didn’t get to finish.
Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon (also the Welsh Championships) - a distance of one-mile swim, 28-mile bike and a six-mile run in Broad Haven last Saturday. The swim was one lap course in Broad Haven Bay, the cycle route went up hill then towards Dale and Marloes back via Herbranston, Tiers Cross and Haverfordwest. The run started along the beach up Haroldston Hill, along the steep coast path overlooking St. Brides Bay to Long Lane, down the hill back onto the beach and along to the finishing arch - Richard Gardiner two hours 24 (fifth overall and first in age group), David Kent two hours 53 (fourth in age group), Jon Phillips two hours 52 (second in age group), Jamie Silvester two hours 58.04, David Meyrick two hours 58.39, Deb Phillips three hours (first in age group), Nick Logan three hours 16 and Adrian Wilson three hours 55. S4C will be televising this event tonight at 9.30 pm.
Pembroke Junior Triathlon -held at Bush School on Sunday with races for eight-14 years in rather chilly conditions! Well done to Seren Barrett (third in her age group), Sam Morris, Joe Morris (second in his age group), Teaghan Waring and Eddie Waring - for their Just-Tri Club.
Caldey Run reminder - boats will be departing at 8am sharp from either the harbour pier or Castle Beach depending on tide tomorrow (Saturday). Please bring own barbecue/food.
CLUB RIDES
Thursday, June 28, Route 6, (Tavernspite and Llanteg): Gumfreston, turn right after Heatherton, the Knapp, Jeffreyston, Reynalton, Templeton, Tavernspite, turn right for Llanteg, across main road at petrol station, down hill to Amroth, turn right for Summerhill, Wisemans Bridge, Saundersfoot, St. Brides Hill, Tenby. (approximately 25 miles) Sweepers Sophie Thomas and Jason Brazier.
All rides will leave Tenby Leisure Centre car park at 6 pm. We have three groups - with a sweeper led social group with the intent that no-one gets left behind and all get a ride to suit their abilities. Helmets to be worn on all club rides and front and rear lights advisable.
