Llandeilo 22 pts. Tenby United 64 Tenby United had a bumper bank holiday weekend, running in no less than 10 tries and putting on an impressive display of open running rugby when they travelled to Llandeilo last Saturday. Despite the Andrew Price, GD Harries, FBM Holidays and Molson Coors sponsored United dominating every area of the game from the outset, credit must go to their spirited hosts Llandeilo, who didn't give up and managed to score four tries of their own in the last 20 minutes, earning themselves a bonus point for their efforts. The first five minutes saw both teams sizing each other up with little between them until the United turned a Llandeilo scrum over on halfway, allowing outside-half Jonathan Rogers to put in a probing kick deep into Ravens territory and forcing them to turn and chase. Indeed, it was Rogers who controlled most of the game with a fine balance of pinpoint, territorial kicking and of knowing when to send the ball wide. With the Seasiders' kick chase putting pressure on the Ravens, they forced the turnover thanks to the hard work of skipper Chris James and the effervescent back row of Patrick Roberts, Luke Hansford and hat-trick scoring number eight Roy Osborn. Sensing that Llandeilo were on the back foot, Chris James opted for the scrummage at the ensuing penalty and it proved a wise decision as the United eight drove the scrum over the line for Osborn to claim the first of his three tries on 10 minutes. With the conversion going narrowly wide, the visitors were happy with their narrow lead. The Seasiders kept the pressure on and with the now dominant pack turning a Llandeilo scrum over, Osborn was up and on his way down the touchline making inroads before being tackled. However, a quick ruck meant Will Crockford could snipe round the fringes, cleverly linking with centre Jack Price, who cantered in for the unconverted touchdown. Now starting to do exactly what they pleased with the ball, the United were certainly entertaining onlookers as all 15 players were involved in throwing the ball around and playing some very attractive rugby in the dry and sunny conditions that suit their style of play. It was this open, running rugby that earned Tenby four more first half tries, which were all scored courtesy of the quality ball provided by the outstanding Seasiders forwards. The tries came from nippy fullback Damo Miller, who had an excellent all-round game, a second for Osborn, earning the all-important bonus point, and both wingers Greg Caine and Barrie John. All four scores were well converted by Rogers. Despite being outgunned in every area, Llandeilo's refusal to give up paid off late in the first half when winger Kevin Walters squeezed into the corner for an unconverted try, closing the half with the Seasiders 38 points to five up. The second half got underway with the United safe in the knowledge that they had the bonus point already in the bag and they could go out and enjoy the game. And enjoy it they did, with a further four tries being scored for their efforts, the first of which came from Roy Osborn. This, his third of the afternoon, came when the pack turned another Llandeilo scrum and pushed them back over their line for Osborn to ground the ball and Rogers added the extras. It was Miller who sped in from halfway for the next touchdown after Barrie John broke away from his own try -line and covered half of the pitch before linking with him. Miller beat four would-be defenders on his way in for his second try, which Rogers converted, extending Tenby's tally to 52 points. The Seasiders brought on fresh legs on the hour mark, with prop Johnny Palmer making way for Rob Fairlie after a fine game up front and hooker Gareth Jones, who also had his usual excellent game, being replaced by the talented Wesley Bonser. The ninth United came after some brilliant lineout work from Luke Dedman who stole a Ravens throw-in, allowing Crockford to move the ball wide, as he had done so well all day, and it seemed to go through every pair of Tenby hands on its way to flanker Luke Hansford, who crossed the line to round of with a fine touchdown, which Rogers again converted. Hansford soon left the field following a solid shift in the back row, to be replaced by Ashley Murdoch, as did Crockford, who made way for Thomas Lewis. The Seasiders 10th try came as a result of the ball again going through every pair of hands before getting to Jack Price, who crossed the line for his second try which, unusually, went unconverted. With 10 minutes remaining and finding themselves on the end of a 64 points to five drubbing, you would probably have forgiven Llandeilo had they given up, but they did quite the opposite and dug deep to manage three more late tries of their own. The Ravens tries came from second row Nathan Jones, prop Dan Thomas and centre Liam Prothero, with fullback and skipper Celfyn Davies converting one and bringing the end to a game that the young Ravens can take a lot of credit from for never rolling over and getting a well-deserved four-try bonus point for their efforts. The Seasiders were delighted with their performance and look forward to returning the favour and welcoming Llandeilo to Heywood Lane tomorrow (Saturday) in a rearranged fixture, which is also the last league game of the season for Tenby and probably the most important. With the league championship to be decided on the result at Heywood Lane along with that in the game between local rivals and friends of the United, Haverfordwest, who welcome the other title contenders, Gorseinon, everyone from Tenby will be wishing Haverfordwest to win. Tomorrow's game at Heywood Lane is a massive affair, with promotion and the possible championship being a massive incentive for the talented United, so the people of Tenby and the surrounding area are urged now, more than ever, to go up to support the boys and help them in their bid for well-deserved and hard-earned success and their efforts to do something very big and special for local rugby and the town itself. Kick-off at Heywood Lane is at 2.30 pm. Hoppy's pitchside bar will also be open all afternoon serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, teas, coffees, hot food and snacks. Tenby United fielded: Damo Miller, Greg Caine, Jack Guerreiro, Jack Price, Barrie John, Jonathan Rogers, Will Crockford (Thomas Lewis), Roy Osborn, Luke Hansford (Ashley Murdoch), Patrick Roberts, Luke Dedman, Chris James (capt), Johnny Palmer (Rob Fairlie), Gareth Jones (Wesley Bonser), Rob Clark.
