Blue Horizons’ inclusive tag-team surf competition will return to Manorbier this month, bringing surfers of different ages, abilities and experience levels together for a celebration of surfing, friendship and community.
The event will be held on on Saturday, September 19, between 12 and 4pm.
Following the success of last year’s event, the organising committee and Blue Horizons Surf School felt there was only one thing to do,run it again!
This year, six teams of ten will compete alongside one another. The teams will include beginners, competitive surfers, children aged eight and over, adaptive surfers and some of the area’s more experienced (older)surfers.
The fun has already begun, with team members connecting before the event to choose names and plan fancy-dress accessories that will help them stand out on the day. Team names range from the Chippers Nippers to the Mano Beards.
Although there will be plenty of friendly competition, the event is about much more than finishing first.

Ten trophies will recognise everything from the best wipeout to the most helpful participant, ensuring that effort, encouragement and team spirit are celebrated alongside surfing ability.
The first-place team will receive a £500 prize sponsored by local company Barti, while the second-place team will receive £500 worth of vouchers from the Port of Milford Haven.
Love Waves Gower has also donated a box of prizes to help ensure nobody leaves empty-handed.
Every competitor will receive a competition T-shirt, kindly sponsored by LBS Builders Merchants and Castell Howell.
Ollie from Blue Horizons said: “The organisers wanted to give something back to the community that people could keep as a memory of a fun and sociable day. With prizes for everyone who takes part, it really isn’t about winning, it is about taking part, having fun and helping the person next to you.

“That is what makes this competition so special. People of different ages, abilities and levels of experience are not competing separately; they are all part of the same team.”
More than 150 people were involved in last year’s event. Among the members of the winning team was Shannon, a full-time wheelchair user, who is already excited to return and try to retain the title with her new teammates.
Blue Horizons hopes this year’s competition will be every bit as memorable, with even more spectators coming along to support the surfers and enjoy the atmosphere.
Everyone is invited to visit Manorbier, cheer on the local surfing talent and then continue the celebrations at The Castle Inn following the competition.
If the weather cancels the event, organisers have a backup date of Sunday.
