A hat-trick from New Zealander Shaun Coles helped Whitland to one of their biggest wins of the season when they defeated local rivals Carmarthen Athletic on the weekend.

The Borderers saw off their opponents 36-10 at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn, with winger Coles catching the eye in a performance that saw the hosts take a 10-3 lead into the break, thanks to tries from skipper Marc Jones and winger Will Davies.

Whitland further increased their lead after the interval with Coles's first try, before Rhydian Davies got in on the act, with Johnny Thomas adding the extra points.

Coles crossed over for his other two tries, to ensure the Borderers earned a well-deserved bonus point.

Athletic's only try came late on through Steve Morse, with Sean Curran converting to add to his first half penalty.
