Air Ambulance
fund-raiser
Saundersfoot Sea Angling Club held their annual overnight fishing match last Saturday/Sunday to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance.
Ten anglers took part, raising between them over £800 in sponsor money - may I thank every individual sponsor who donated towards this charity and who helped make the event such a success.
Further thanks must go to Matthew and Sophie, Rhona and Micky, of Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire, who donated £150 prize money to the club for the winning anglers - Little and Large, as seen in the photo.
The winner with a bass of 1.667kg was Tony (Little) Ormond, second with a bag of 1.727kg was Joe (Large) Protheroe.
This was not a club points match and no Golden Peg was drawn.
Following the event we met at Sandyhill Cafe for a slap up cooked breakfast and hot drinks - thank you Donna, just what the doctor ordered after fishing for 12 hours with no luck at all (personally speaking!)
The fishing, it must be reported, was lousy. Marks fished were from Broad Haven (S) to Pendine, but only four anglers brought fish to the scales. Never mind about Marine Conservation Zones, the Welsh Assembly Government should perhaps concentrate their resources investigating the severe reduction in fish over the last five years.
I don't know about you guys reading this, but I have never known such a poor season, apart from summer flounder and smoothhound.
Forthcoming matches: Sunday, September 2 - Pendine, sponsored by Suregas. Sign on by 1.30 pm at the car park, fishing 2 - 7 pm, with the weigh-in at the Old Chemist Inn, Saundersfoot, with scales closing at 8.15 pm prompt. £100 first prize, £50 second. No vehicular access.
Sunday, September 16 - Beach Rover. Sign on at Kilgetty TIC by 2 pm, fishing 3 - 7 pm, with the scales closing 8 pm prompt at the Captain's Table, Saundersfoot.
September and October matches - 2012 Singles KO semi-finals sponsored by Powells Cottage Holidays: Leigh Rogers v Liam Marklew; Rob Collins v Andrew Rogers.
Leaderboard at end of July: Joint 1. Leigh Rogers and Andrew Rogers (52 points); 3. Tony Ormond (35); 4. Mike Williams (34); 5. Llewellyn Rose (33).
SSAC meetings are held at the Sports Club at 8 pm on the first Wednesday of each month, the next one being on September 5. Everybody welcome.
