After a week off following Coppet Week, we were scheduled to restart last Sunday, June 11, at the very leisurely time of 6.30 on what should have been a lovely June Sunday evening sail, however, the wind gods which had been kind to us for most of Coppet Week were not helpful all of last week and all of the weekend which saw racing cancelled down on the Haven and in most places around Pembrokeshire from what we could gather.
A small crowd did turn up at the clubhouse between 5 and 5.30, but no-one seemed particularly keen. We did hear that Nina was keen to get back to watch the football, James had apparently injured himself kite–surfing (surely his patients must be hoping it’s his extraction arm and not his injection arm that’s injured) - usually when the kite surfers are out we are in, and as a result, race officers Paul and Julia decided that conditions were not suitable for racing.
So not so much to report this week, but a chance to reflect further on what was yet again a very successful Coppet Week which seems to have been enjoyed by all who attended.
We did report on the overall winners and the class winners last week, but this does give us a chance to mention the other local boats who took part and in particular the three Toppers of Sam, Jacob and Leon who have all come through the ranks of sail training over the last year or so and have all been racing with us this season and they all did admirably in coping with the bigger fleets and finishing every race, often beating many much more experienced sailors so well done to all of them.
Last Wednesday, a willing gang gathered to clear away the racing equipment after Coppet Week for another year and a big thanks to all of them for their efforts. We hear that Terry is now also on the mend and will hopefully be returning soon to help to restore order.
The mid-season points series will get underway this Sunday, June 18 (Father’s Day in case you have forgotten) at the highly civilised time of 1200 with Ben and Alison in charge, plus Harry and Steve and Steve Cavill and Hywel on safety - we are assured that the weather will be brilliant with sunshine and pleasant winds so make sure you are there.
