MORE than 70 girls from Ysgol Bro Gwaun and Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi enjoyed a morning packed with sport and fun at Fishguard Leisure Centre recently.

The event, organised by Sport Pembrokeshire and sponsored by Valero, aimed to encourage more young people to take part in sport by providing opportunities to try a wide range of activities in a fun and supportive environment.

Participants took part in sessions including football with POINT Youth Club, rugby with Whitland Ladies RFC, hockey with Fishguard and Goodwick Hockey Club, taekwondo, tennis, sailing, table tennis, rowing and bowls. They also had the opportunity to experience the Fitness Suite at Fishguard Leisure Centre.

The event was supported by Young Ambassadors from Ysgol Bro Gwaun, who helped deliver activities throughout the morning.

Refreshments were kindly provided by Morrisons and Princes Gate, while Hair Syrup and Boots donated a selection of goodies.

Dan Bellis from Sport Pembrokeshire said: “What a brilliant morning of fun activities the girls had. A big thanks to all the groups for offering such a wide range of activities, the Young Ambassadors for their help and to all the local businesses that provided refreshments and goodies.

“We hope the girls have been inspired from today to try out some new activities.”

The girls were enthusiastic about the opportunities to try new sports and activities.

One participant said: “That was so much fun. It was great to try so many fun activities.”

Another added: “I loved trying all the different sports, especially ones I hadn’t done before.”

A third participant said: “I had never been in the gym before so it was fun being able to go on the bikes and treadmills.”

The event forms part of Sport Pembrokeshire’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for young people to discover new sports, build confidence and develop lifelong habits of physical activity.
