Last Saturday the First XV entertained Llanelli Wanderers, whose record suggested that they could be fallible if the home side could improve on their conversion rate in attack.

The visitors scored very early through their stand out full back Lewis Jones.

A yellow card and some excellent phase attacks from the home side raised the tension. But Jones then finished off two concerted attacks by the Wands to score two quick scores to give his side a healthy lead after thirty minutes.

Pembroke built more good attacks, but lacked a clinical edge and accuracy, missed good chances, leaving the score at 0-19 at the break. Wands then scored early in the second half and had another minutes later to extend their lead.

Pembroke’s forwards continued to be industrious, demonstrating excellent fitness, but despite excellent work from their forwards the home side lacked a cutting edge behind the scrum and this cost them throughout the game. Wands eventually ran out worthy winners by 7-33.

The Panthers played at home to Clwb Rygbi Cymru Caerdydd in the Bowl Quarter Final and after a very entertaining and exciting game, where the home side acquitted themselves very well, the more experienced Cardiff outfit came out on top, thanks to their speedy outside backs, who constantly posed a huge threat throughout the match.

At the usual post match hustings and hospitality, the Panthers wished them success in the next round.

The Youth travelled to Crymych expecting a tough encounter against a more mature outfit.

As expected the visitors put up a very spirited performance and put Crymych under serious pressure in the first half.

However, the weight of defensive work and extra pace in the home side’s squad held the day and they asserted themselves in the second half scoring some very good tries, eventually running out winners by 40-14, whilst paying tribute to the challenge their younger opponents had presented throughout the whole game.

The next First XV match on March 4 is Penclawdd away; The Panthers play West Swansea Hawks on February 26 KO 2.30pm; whilst the U17s entertain Crymych in the Mike Fry Cup this Friday KO 7 pm.

The U18s squad are due to play Tenby at home in the Griffiths Cup on Thursday March 2 KO 7 pm.

The Juniors were again out in force, with the Under 12s, 10s, 11s and 9s recording wins against Narberth, whilst the others had mixed fortunes.

Last week the Club lost another former player and keen supporter over many years in Trevor Howells of Lamphey, who was aged 96 years. Everyone at the club sends their sincerest condolences to his family and close friends.

The final winter Quiz Night will be held at the clubhouse on Friday March 24, starting at 7.15 pm for teams of 4 to 6.
