Here we go again, another League season starts tomorrow. The squad has been training hard for their first start in Division 2 West, against St Clears at home tomorrow, KO 2.30pm. The club is hoping for a good crowd to cheer the lads on, after the excellent support throughout last season. Tomorrow’s match will be sponsored by Monddi Printand the match ball by Mr. Ray Kane.

The fixtures for the rest of September are, Fishguard (away), Carmarthen Athletic (away) and Burry Port (home), all other fixtures are available in the clubhouse, or on the WRU website. Club membership renewals are now due and people can request the usual Membership envelope from the club steward.

SECOND XV

The “Tigers” are due to travel to Milford on Saturday September 1st for their first encounter of the season. The game will also be the first leg of the annual battle to secure the Ian Jones Cup, put up in his memory by the Milford club. The team will be under the leadership and watchful eyes of the new and very experienced coaching team of Tosh Rowlands and Simon Edwards. A number of other fixtures have also been pencilled in for the coming three months to ensure the team will be kept fully engaged in playing for some of the annual, local, inter-club Trophies.

YOUTH

After the euphoric season of last year, the squad starts their new challenges by taking on Haverfordwest at home, KO 2.30pm tomorrow, under the guidance of the very experienced coaching group of Martin Alderman, Richard Gibby, Nev Apperley and Dai Gwyther, with Steve Phillips on the bag. Welcome to our new Youth coach Nev, who brings a huge amount of experience and expertise into the Youth section.

Two of the younger members of the U17s squad, Evan Sheldon (No8) and Eljay Taylor (tight head prop), after superb performances in a Scarlets U16s trial, have secured places in the Scarlets West squad for the coming season. The Club wishes them every success at this new, challenging level of competition.

JUNIOR SECTION

Fixtures start a week later than the senior section and it looks promising after a very successful Registration Day a couple of weeks ago, in that all age groups seem to have viable numbers and squads.

Most of the age groups have been sponsored this season, thanks to the diligence of their coaches and we as a club would like to thank all of those who have supported our youngsters so generously; they include, Woodenbale 2000 Ltd, APR General Building, Courtyard Caterers, Jewsons (Pembroke), Mr. and Mrs. J. Morris (Orielton House Farm), and more will follow as they are confirmed by the age groups.

Meanwhile the County Junior Committee has awarded their showpiece County Junior Finals Day for 2019 to our club; this is due to take place on the Sunday of the first May Bank Holiday. The club hosted the event four seasons ago and is honoured to be given the opportunity to host this marvellous shop window for all Junior talent around our County, yet again.

LADIES

The new Ladies team will be starting friendly fixtures in the coming weeks, hosting snd or travelling for matches on Sundays. Anyone wanting to join this new section should consult the noticeboard inside the club for contact details.

150+ CLUB MONTHLY DRAW

Congratulations to the following people on winning the £80 Phil Davies, £50 Fiona Edwards and £25 Pat Doyle prizes for the August Draw.

NEW WORLD RECORD HOLDER

After the many successes on the field last season across the Youth age group, young Shane Gwyther, our present youth hooker, recently entered into an international weightlifting competition. He personally weighed in at 80 kg, when entering the 82.5kg category for 16-17 year olds. Then to his and his supporters delight, he lifted a new world record for the category of 222.5kg; a massive personal success and milestone for this very ambitious weight lifter and rugby player. Everyone at the club sends their warmest congratulations and look forward to hearing about further successes from Shane in this sphere of competition.
