Pembroke Dock Quins 24 - Llanybydder 48: The good news is that the Quins are improving, being well in contention for the first 60 minutes, scoring four well worked tries in the process, and with four games against the top four teams out of the way, results should now improve.

The visitors arrived currently 4th in the division, and it did not take them long to open the scoring when outside half Llyr Tobias cut through the Quins defence for a well worked try.

Centre Stefan Richards added the extras, with just 4 minutes on the clock.

The Quins’ scrum as it did the previous week were on top in the early stages, and the side soon went on the attack themselves.

It was no surprise when full back Rhys Bradney sprinted over in the corner for his side’s opening try, and for good measure he converted it himself.

On 25 minutes full back Dan Garside put Llanybydder back in front following an interception.

Stefan Richards converted and the visitors were back in the lead 7-14, and 5 minutes later he was at it again with another well worked try, which again was converted by Richards.

The Quins now were truly up against it, and when Richards grabbed his side’s bonus point try which he also converted himself the hosts were really staring down the barrel of the gun at 7-28 in arrears.

They quite simply had to score next to stay in the contest, and just as half time approached that was exactly what they did, when second row Josh White powered over the line from close range.

Rhys Bradney converted to end the scoring for the first half, with the Quins 14-28 adrift.

The Quins could not have had a better start to the second half, and when the ball popped into the hands of Ben Gibby with the half just 5 minutes old, the young second row just pinned his ears back and raced in from 40 yards up the touchline for his first try for the club.

Bradney missed the conversion, but with the score now at 19-28 it was game on.

The visitors were now struggling a bit as the Quins grew in confidence, and when they were awarded a penalty from close range they had no hesitation in grabbing the three points on offer.

Five minutes later the Quins conceded another penalty in more or less the same position, this time scrum half Lyr James took a quick tap and go and ran over underneath the Quins’ posts.

Richards converted and that was that as far as the winners would be, but the Quins needed a try from somewhere and it came from the outstanding prop Dean Wilcox who had a monumental game especially with his never say die attitude.

His try was the least he deserved, after a fine pick up he crashed over the line.

Bradney missed the difficult conversion, to leave the scire at 24-38, which may have been a fair result, but the visitors added one more try through No 8 Bleddyn Jones and a last minute penalty from Richards who finished with a haul 23 points with a fine goal kicking display which sent out a warning to the rest of the League.
