Pembroke Dock Quins 7 pts.

St. Clears 32

The Quins for the second week in a row were desperately unlucky to come away with nothing after being in contention for an hour on a cold blustery day at Bierspool.

It was the Saints who, with the elements behind them, started the stronger, giving the Quins a torrid time in the opening scrums, which was surprising as the home team had been so dominant in this department the week before.

It was not long before the Saints' pressure began to tell and fullback Chris Rodenhurst duly punished a Quins discretion with a well-struck penalty in the 12th minute.

The early loss of flanker Alex Pierce, who has been a huge inspiration this season, did not help matters, and on 20 minutes Chris Rodenhurst doubled his side's lead with his secound penalty.

The Quins' scrum problems eased with the introduction of prop Tom Kaijaks and things started looking up as, although playing against the elements, they began to exert some pressure of their own.

As the half was drawing to a close, most Quins supporters would have been more than happy to turn round just six points adrift.

But replacement flanker Joe Powell had other ideas when he burst away from a maul on the 25 and raced through some would-be tacklers to touch down close to the posts.

Centre Liam Smith, who is not normally a goal kicker, converted with a fine kick against the elements to send the Quins in 7-6 at the break.

Now with the advantage of the elements, the hosts looked like they were in a good position as the half started, but the Saints had other ideas.

On the hour, the game took a dramatic turn. After sustained Quins pressure, the visitors broke out from close to their own line and only a knock-on prevented the visitors from taking the lead.

This lifted the visitors and replacement right winger Stefan Lewis punished the Quins with an unconverted try to push his side 11-7 to the good.

Five minutes later, the referee awarded the Saints a penalty try after the Quins pulled down a maul.

Rodenhurst converted to give his side an 18-7 advantage.

An uphill task now faced the Quins as the Saints were rewarded with two further tries from replacement Dafydd Walters and tight-head prop Jack Rees, both of which were converted by Rodenhurst, who finished with a haul of 12 points.
