Saundersfoot Sports Club (sponsored by LG Leisure Ltd) played host to the Power Station Club again on Monday evening, but this time in the Jimmy Allen Cup semi-finals (two singles, two doubles, with aggregate score to count).
The first singles saw Darren Morgan play S. Bourne. Darren started slowly, but as the frame progressed, he stepped up a gear. However, it was a close affair throughout and by mid-frame the scores were level. And there was still little in it by the colours, but Darren eventually got over the line by 14 points.
The first doubles saw Martin Durham and debutant Tom James play M. Deardon and P. White. The Saundersfoot boys started well, but were up against two good potting machines and, despite their best efforts, found themselves 20 points adrift mid-frame. They continued to battle on gamely, but as the frame went to the colours, the gap had widened and they finally went down by 42 points.
The second singles saw Mark Cleevely play P. Grimwood. Mark was off form on this occasion, finding himself up against it early on. By mid-frame he was 20 points down and on reaching the colours the difference had increased to 30. He rallied late on, but eventually lost by 18 points.
The final doubles saw captain Glyn Davies and Dean Ludlow play G. Aries and D. King. The Saundersfoot boys started cautiously, but were still 22 points down in quick time. They rallied again, but to no avail as their opponents racked up a fine 59-point break through G. Aries. Dean and Glyn carried on bravely, but eventually lost by 44.
It means Saundersfoot will now have something of a mountain to climb as they try to overhaul a 118-point deficit in the second leg.
