PEMBROKE’S Under-12 netball team returned home proud after securing an impressive third-place finish during their recent tour to Paris, competing against opposition from across the UK.
The tournament featured 39 schools across the age groups, with Pembroke standing out as one of just two teams from Wales and one of the few independent netball clubs taking part.
Led by coaches Adele Gilbert and Jemma Dennison, the players showed determination, resilience, and excellent teamwork throughout.
Captain Holly Shelmerdine led by example, keeping spirits high and supporting her teammates both on and off the court. Her efforts were recognised as she was presented the “Sportsmanship Award’ for the U12 age group.
The tour was about far more than netball. For some of the players, it marked their first time travelling outside the UK, making the experience even more special. The team enjoyed unforgettable moments, including visiting the iconic Eiffel Tower and taking part in a masterclass led by English international netball players.
The trip itself was made possible thanks to two years of dedicated fundraising and the generous support of the local community. The team also expressed their gratitude to Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Lions for their donation, as well as the Pembroke Power Station Club for sponsoring their tour hoodies.
The tour concluded with what was, for many, the highlight of the trip — a visit to Disneyland Paris. The day proved magical and was thoroughly enjoyed by all, providing the perfect ending to an unforgettable experience.
With lasting memories and invaluable experiences gained both on and off the court, the Paris tour marks an exciting step forward in the development of this talented young Pembroke side.
The tour also brings to a close a highly successful season for the U12s squad, whose Pumas team were crowned champions of the Pembrokeshire Netball League, capping off an excellent year for the team.
