Narberth 17 pts. Tondu 10
After trailing for most of the match, the Otters grasped control in the last five minutes when Tondu were reduced to 13 players to notch up a 17-10 home win.
After a tight and attritional first half, Narberth found that lowly Tondu provided stiff opposition for the second time this season and the Otters trailed by seven points at the interval.
Both sides found that attacking moves were breaking down in the stiff breeze, with two good defensive lines in operation.
As a result, players became a little frustrated and referee Jason Morris issued four yellow cards, two to each side at different periods in the first half.
Narberth played against the wind from the kick-off and try-scoring opportunities were difficult to create, although poor handling in difficult conditions resulted in three possible scoring opportunities being missed.
After 25 minutes, when Narberth were reduced to 14 players, alert Tondu centre Matthew Davies broke clear from inside his own half to leave the home defenders trailing as he scored a try under the posts, converted by fly-half Paul Smithson.
At the start of the second half, Otters fly-half Ianto Griffiths missed out on a long-range penalty attempt when the ball shaved the outside of the posts.
A few minutes later, when another penalty was awarded inside the Tondu 22, the Otters opted for a scrum, to take advantage of their strength in that department.
The move broke down, another penalty was awarded and again after superb pressure by the Narberth pack, Tondu conceded a penalty try, which was converted by Ianto Griffiths to level the scores.
Tondu regained the lead a few minutes later with a penalty kick from in front of the posts by Paul Smithson, but Tondu suffered a setback when two more players were sent to the sin bin.
Although by this stage, the Otters' advantage in the set-piece had been negated because of uncontested scrums, prop Ollie Evans got the touchdown from a rolling maul, to score an unconverted try.
Three minutes later, the Otters extended the lead with an excellent try, scored by quick off the mark wing Rhys Davies.
The best handling movement of the game by the Otters produced an overlap and Davies raced up the left touchline to go over in the corner for an unconverted try.
Commenting after the match, Narberth head coach Sean Gale said: "We won again at home, but as coaches we were very disappointed with the level of performance.
"We lacked a lot of fluidity and we did not have the gain line which we had been working on in training during the week.
"We won the match through our set-piece work in the line-outs and scrums.
"In injury time, we had two driving lineouts, where on one occasion we might have been awarded a penalty try, which would have given us a bonus point.
"We used our scrum as a weapon and it was the second time this season we have ended up with unopposed scrums playing against Tondu and that is costing us bonus points.
"We are a little worried about not scoring tries and not creating enough chances. We keep going back to scoring tries from our set-piece work.
"You have got to take your hat off to Tondu. They were very rugged and came here with a game plan to spoil and put us under pressure, which they did very well.
"Although we have got to admire what Tondu brought to the party, we are disappointed with our contribution to the attack. In this match we did not vary our game enough and Tondu defended very well."
"It was one of those rare days at home where the three-quarters were unable to string a number of attacking moves together."
The Health Centre Balcony Suite match sponsors, Puffin Produce, selected Narberth prop Ollie Evans as man-of-the-match.
Apart from Evans, who stood out in a match-winning performance by the Narberth pack, once again flanker Stuart Worrall was his usual industrious self, while in the backs Rhys Davies caused problems when he had the ball and ran at the Tondu defence.
The Folly Farm Otters Holt match sponsors were Cefnogwyr Clunderwen and the match ball sponsors were John Mathias and Friends and O. J. Williams.
