Three teenagers from Pembrokeshire have been celebrating having successfully taken part in a major international competition.

Emyr Tayler, who attends Ysgol y Preseli, Patrick Bunker and Cethin Ravenhill, who both attend Pembroke School, participated in the 18th CMAS Underwater Hockey World Championships as important members of the Great Britain squad. This year's competition took place in Eger, Hungary, throughout late August and September.

Seven teams representing Great Britain were taken to the competition, competing in the categories of Under 19 and Under 23 age groups as well as Elite and Masters teams. Tayler, Bunker and Ravenhill were kindly sponsored by Valero, and took part in the Under 19 Boys and Under 23 Ladies sections, respectively.

Both teams had a long and arduous tournament, with up to three games played each day over the period of a week.

Emyr and Patrick played in the semi-final against Australia, with a nail-biting match reaching extra-time and even a golden goal to determine their final place. They finished sixth overall to exceptionally strong competition.

The Ladies team – including Cethin - battled hard throughout the week and had their final play-off for the bronze medal against Turkey to finish third and as the highest placed European team in their section.
