A courageous and determined Saundersfoot Sports' second team produced their best performance of the season to defeat their Carew counterparts 3-1 away from home.
With kick-off looming, news filtered through that a contingent of their team suffered a car crash close to the Carew ground leaving one club member seriously injured and the others shaken.
Although down to just seven players and confused as to the condition of their team-mates, the referee asked that the game be played. Fortunately, their first team game was called off so they were able to scramble enough players together to take the field, although the decision to proceed with the game was a controversial one. Carew, to their credit, were sympathetic towards their plight.
Showing great resolve, the visitors got the better of an evenly contested game, with Carew scoring first through Johnny Harries, while the Sports responded through goals by Grant Hardy and Jamie Morgan, who finished with a brace.
With regular second team manager Colin Rolfe involved in the collision, first team manager Sam Coleman took over and said the result was deserved.
"It was a fair result in the end, especially considering the build-up. It was manic prior to kick-off as no-one knew what was going on, what had happened and what injuries the players had sustained.
"We've had some great messages of support from other teams around the county and that means a lot to us and those involved in the crash."
In contrast to their second team, Carew firsts had great reason to celebrate as they stormed into the final of the second division cup following a 3-1 win over Herbrandston.
The game couldn't have got off to a better start as James Hinchliffe scored after 11 seconds, while James Buckle increased the lead six minutes and 50 seconds later.
Herbrandston were behind the eight ball before they had warmed up and, despite pulling one back prior to the break, another Buckle goal ensured Barry Evans's team went through.
Understandably, the Carew boss was happy with the result.
"It was a really good performance after an unbelievable start. We've either got Saundersfoot or West Dragons in the final and the boys are well up for it; we're absolutely delighted."
Narberth produced their best performance of the season to hold champions-elect Merlins Bridge to a 0-0 draw over the weekend.
Able to field a full strength side for the first time in months, Peter Fearne's tenacious outfit held firm against the Wizards and did enough to win the game, according to club spokesman Steve Jones.
Outstanding defence in the first half, coupled with attacking flair in the second, almost gave the visitors to the Racecourse an unlikely win, yet Jones believes the result was a fair one and one of which the team can feel proud.
"It was a great performance," he said. "They are a good side and no doubt will go on and win the league, but we more than matched them in footballing terms and in physicality.
"They have some tough players and we stood toe to toe with them throughout the game. We didn't take a backward step throughout."
Playing against the wind in the first half meant defence was the order of the day and Geraint Nicholas was pressed into making some great saves, but a switch in the second gave Narberth the advantage. They created enough opportunities to win the game, the best of which was a penalty taken by Jordan Williams after he was felled in the box.
Unfortunately for him, he missed with the attempt, yet the team as a whole can be proud of their display.
Tenby's home game against Hakin was postponed.
Kilgetty suffered at the hands of the weather yet again as their home clash with Camrose was postponed, yet Pendine were able to play away at Broad Haven, although the 6-1 defeat there did nothing to ease their relegation fears.
Steve Jones scored the Gulls' only goal and the result means they are still rooted to the foot of division three.
In stark contrast, St. Clears are sitting at the top and playing the best football of the season, according to manager Craig Weston.
They entertained Tenby seconds and defeated the Seasiders 8-1.
Eddie Wiggins was the star of the show as he came back to form by scoring four, with the other goals being shared by Dorian Davies, Sean Seymour Davies, Steve Thomas and Ian Derbyshire.
The Saints scored four in each half and added an own goal for good measure as Tenby were thoroughly outplayed.
Weston said the result was just what the team needed after losing in the West Wales Cup to Johnston last weekend.
"It was the best the team has played all season. The pace they played was superb. Tenby are a good side, but they caught us on a good day as we were determined to put last week's result behind us."
Narberth seconds won again to keep them in the promotion mix and, with forthcoming fixtures against Pennar Robins and St Clears to come, the chance to gain points on the leading pack must be a motivating factor for the Bluebirds' seconds string.
They hammered Clarbeston Road 7-2, although the result wasn't as clear cut as the scoreline suggests, especially considering their first half performance, yet after being read the riot act during the interval, they upped their tempo to run away with the game.
"We had to buck our ideas up in the second half," said manager Adrian Howells. "We were a bit sloppy in the first half, but in the end we could have scored a lot more.
"It still places us in the mix for promotion, yet realistically I think we will finish in the top three, but you never know, we'll just take it one game at a time."
Tony Evans scored early on to give Narberth the lead, but the visitors soon hit back, before Evans put them ahead once more. Another equaliser levelled matters at the break, but Narberth then broke clear to seal the win.
Evans completed his hat-trick early in the second half, before Craig Hurst scored the first of his two, with Wayne Scourfield and Paul Phillips adding the finishing touches, with Phillips's being the best of the bunch.
Lawrenny secured a 1-1 draw away at Haverfordwest Cricket Club, with Lee Morris scoring their goal, while Manorbier United continued their fine form of 2012 with a 4-2 away win at Hubberston.
An own goal by the home side helped in the scoreline, with other goals beings scored by Neil Lane, Ben Hall and David Blackwell.
An own goal by Herbrandston seconds helped St. Florence to a share of the spoils as the teams drew 3-3.
Jamie Roberts and Colin Batley were the others to score on the narrow ground, securing the visitors their third draw of the season.
Kilgetty seconds' home clash with St. Clears' seconds was postponed in division five and so, too, was Lawrenny seconds' home clash against Fishguard Sports.
Manorbier United, meanwhile, had cause for celebration as they acquired their second victory of the season with a 1-0 home win over Pembroke Boro.
