Recently Tenby Golf Club held their Junior Open Championships, with entries from as far afield as Worcestershire and Monmouthshire. The weather proved to be very kind, with sunshine all day, but with the usual breeze off the sea.

The role of starter for the day went to Tony Morris, with local junior David Webb striking the first drive. There was a variety of competitions, namely white box medal, red box medal and a yellow box stableford event for the younger players, and all were contested strongly.

The winner of the boys gross medal and defending the title for the first time since the inception of the competition, was David Webb with a gross 79, closely followed by Jay Detheridge from Monmouthshire and Harri Pachu from Machynys. Jay incidentally won the nett competition with a nett 70.

The girls event was a much more local affair, due to the strength of the girls section in Tenby, with the gross winner being Bethan Morris with a gross 84, followed by Hannah Bowen from Neath. The nett winner was another Tenby girl, Sophie Lovatt with a nett 75, followed by Olivia Bradbury also from Tenby.

The boys stableford competition proved to be a real feast of scoring, with Carmarthen Golf Club providing the top three. Winner with 46 points was Iestyn McAvoy, second was Sion Jenkins on 45 and third was Rhodri Cole with 42.

The day proved a wonderful success, due to the support from Tenby Pro shop and Clare Webb on registration, Anita Davies, Anne Wilks and Irene Gilman in the scorers office, Tony Morris on starter duty, the support of Michelle and team on refreshments and Chris Jenkins and his team for the condition of the course once again. The co-ordination of the day was held together by Ian Thomas and the prizes were presented by Mrs. Vicky Burks, ladies' captain. All were invaluable to the smooth running of the event; a great team effort everyone and well done.
