PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 22 pts.

CEFNEITHIN 14

The visitors left Bierspool on Saturday utterly dejected after taking the lead with just five minutes to go, and returning home with nothing to show for their efforts.

It was the visitors who were first out of the blocks forcing two kickable penalties in the first five minutes, but fortunately for the Quins, centre Chris Moore missed them both.

The Quins, who were once again fielding a weakened side due to work commitments and injury, were up against it in a game many thought they would win easily as the visitors have yet to register a single point this season.

Cefneithin struck after 15 minutes when centre Moore waltzed through to touch down underneath the posts after beating at least three would-be tacklers.

Outside-half Owen Lewis converted to put the visitors seven in front.

The Quins scrum, as it has for most of the season, was getting to grips with their counterparts, with Brendan O'Driscoll, Peter Roach and Dai Moseley solid and seemingly immovable.

It was from this platform that the Quins scored their first try after forcing a reset scrum after a 180-degree slow wheel, number eight Gareth Scourfield picked up and fed Lewis Davies who made a strong run towards the posts to offload to man of the match Alex Pierce, who scored his first try of the season.

Lewis Davies converted to level the scores, as the sides went in 7-7 at the interval.

The visitors with the wind at their backs at the start of the second half looked to be the favourites, as it seemed difficult to see where a Quins try was coming from.

But as they showed the previous week they never give up and when flanker Barry Parsons picked up a loose ball and streaked 45 yards to the corner with a fair turn of pace to give the Quins the lead half way through the half, it looked as if the home side would sneak a hard-earned victory, although Davies missed the conversion from wide out.

The Cefneithin threequarters were giving the Quins a torrid time and on two occasions the visitors sent out a warning, with only the final pass going to ground keeping the Quins' line intact.

Five minutes from time, the visitors did strike when centre Moore, who had been a threat right from the start, finished off a fine move, touching down once again underneath the Quins' posts.

Lewis converted to give his side a 14-12 lead with time running out.

The Quins resilience was now going to be tested to the full if they were going to pull off their third victory of the season, and straight from the kick-off they put pressure on their opponents and forced a penalty.

Davies who hadn't enjoyed the best of luck with the boot, lined up an awkward kick, which he duly dispatched between the posts to put the Quins back in the lead.

Cefneithin threw everything at the Quins, trying to run from everywhere, and when a move broke down, second row Neil Harries picked up and charged towards the visitors' line, putting in a well-weighted chip ahead which resulted in a fortunate bounce for his fellow second row Mark Van Rhyn, who dived over halfway out.

Davies added the extras to take away the visitors' bonus point, which many thought was the least they deserved.
