NEW PRESIDENT AND CAPTAIN TAKE OFFICE AT AGM
The club’s annual general meeting took place on Friday and saw a nearly full room install the new president, David Harries, and new club captain, Paul Grimwood. David takes over from Mike Williams, who has given loyal service to the club for the last four years.
Mike has also been president of the Dyfed Golf Union for the last three years, and is now looking forward to a well deserved rest!
Last year’s captain, Simon Bourne, spoke about the very successful year, when a number of the members represented the club in prestigious competitions. The South Wales Seniors Classic Claret Jug competition was won by Brian Phillips and Phil Adams; Lynne Rees and Anne Williams reached the final of the Coronation 4s at Cradoc, and the Ping Mixed foursomes team made it through to the quarter-final stage.
He also thanked the club’s restaurant and bar staff for their sterling efforts through the year in providing excellent meals and service to visiting teams, and the members. The course condition is the best it has been for many years, thanks to the hard work of the greenstaff, Barry, Percy and Glen, with their army of helpers.
Giving the club’s financial report, executive chairman John Parsons was pleased to note that a modest profit had been made. The significant expenditure on new course machinery has helped develop an even more friendly and enjoyable golfing experience for members and visitors alike, and the club is therefore moving forward in line with targets set last year. South Pembrokeshire Golf Club members can therefore look forward to further improvements in the golfing experience, and profitability in 2018.
The new membership fees for 2018 were presented, together with generous discounts available to those who can make an early payment.
The new captain, Paul Grimwood, was elected and Simon Bourne presented him with his tie, before handing over the ‘baton’. Paul addressed the meeting and confirmed that he was very honoured to be asked to be club captain.
The members also voted in new lady captain, Jayne Lewis, who takes over from Ann Williams, and Richard K. Evans was elected to the main committee. Roger Ferris and John Parsons were confirmed as directors, and after the formalities, the captain invited members to join him at the bar for a celebratory drink.
After the AGM, the draw for the £50 prize following the membership survey was made, and the winner was Brian Williams.
Members please note that tickets are still available for the Christmas Dinner on Friday, December 8, with music and dancing after.
Why not join South Pembrokeshire Golf Club and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the clubhouse, with excellent food and drinks, plus the superb quality golf course overlooking the Cleddau estuary. We are the friendly club, and everyone is welcome.
