Dennis Genovese who plays walking football for New Hedges and Saundersfoot United has been selected to represent Wales Over 70s Walking Football Team in an international competition in Marseille in June.

Ray Wise, chairman of the Walking Football side expressed hisand everyone at Club’s excitement at the news.

“Dennis is a stalwart of this club and is becoming a legend. We are so proud of him becoming an international.

“He is an inspiration to us all and we know he will do us proud in France,” he added.

The weekly football sessions have proved to be so popular that the club will not only meet on Saturdays at the Greenhill astro turf pitch between 10 and 11 am (9:45 to arrange sides etc) but from Wednesday, March 29 sessions are booked at the same venue every week.

“With the standards of football and fitness levels rising, the ‘Walking Football’ has evolved into a more standard 6-a-side format,” said Mark Gray from the Club.

“Having said that the club still enters Walking Football competitions for over 60s.

“On March 18 as the current reigning Cup Champions of Wales for the past two seasons, we host the current Wales League Champions Chepstow in the first round of the British national cup.

“We are always looking for new members to join us and continue to welcome new recruits almost weekly.

“If you fancy getting the boots back on simply turn up at a session. We have players from 50 to 70+ so come along any time.”

The Club’s first of many ‘social events’ was held last week - armed only with bus passes and a few quid, the chaps headed to Haverfordwest’s Wetherspoons for a completely splendid afternoon.
