Christmas; traditionally a time when teams tend to know their fate when the season ends. It’s not definite of course, but it does give an indication of whether your team will go up, down, stay where it is or be crowned champions.
For some, it’s a happy time of year, for others less so as the stark reality of the league table lays bare for all to see, changing not a jot for the two weeks when no games are played.
Come January or December 30, as is the case this year, when the league starts up again, all teams will be raring to go again. Those struggling will hope the two weeks off means a New Year and a new start, while those leading the race will be hoping the form continues into 2018.
One thing is for certain, all teams will be hoping for some good weather as it was certainly not kind last weekend.
Of the 32 matches scheduled to take place, only 14 went ahead as sodden pitches played havoc with the programme.
Carew at home to Clarbeston Road was off, as was Herbie against Hakin, while Monkton Swifts were unable to play their match against Goodwick.
The game at Lamphey went ahead, although the Stags would have wished it hadn’t as a resurgent Angle beat them 4-1.
Alex Lewis scored Lamphey’s only goal, while Ben Adams scored three for Angle, with Chris Richards netting the other.
Narberth were at home to Merlins Bridge, with the visitors coming out on top 2-1, despite Tony Evans’s goal for the Bluebirds, while at Neyland, Pennar Robins lost 5-2, with their goals coming from Phil John and Jason Donahue.
In division two, Hundleton v Johnston was off, as was Lawrenny v Saundersfoot, Merlins Bridge seconds v Kilgetty and Prendergast Villa v St. Clears.
A Sam Harts goal wasn’t enough for Carew seconds to overcome Goodwick United seconds away from home as the Rooks lost 3-1, with St. Florence also losing, going down 5-0 at home against West Dragons’ seconds.
Elsewhere in the division, there were postponements for Manorbier United v Camrose, Pembroke Boro v Narberth seconds, Pendine v Clarbeston Road seconds and Pennar Robins’ seconds v Milford Athletic.
Pennar Robins’ thirds took to the pitch. however, travelling to Angle to take on their seconds, who walloped them 11-0.
Marco Valentine scored four, with Carl Vincent and Nathan Guy scoring two apiece and the other goals coming from Michael Groves, Jack Sullivan and Tom Probert.
The games between Kilgetty seconds and Fishguard Sports’ seconds, Llangwm Seconds v Monkton Swifts’ seconds and St. Ishmaels’ seconds and Lamphey seconds were postponed.
Hundleton seconds narrowly lost at Camrose seconds, going down 4-3, with their goals coming from Sam Sharp, Andrew Hay and Sam Blunsden, while Cosheston’s game at home against Milford United thirds was postponed.
Defeat for Pembroke Boro seconds, too, after going down 3-2 away at Johnston seconds, Jason Evans and Sean Edmonton scoring their goals.
Elsewhere the game between Saundersfoot Sports’ seconds and Carew thirds was postponed.
