Will this season ever end? That’s the question many Pembrokeshire footballers are asking after yet another batch of games was postponed over the weekend and on Tuesday night.
Carew’s home game against Lamphey was postponed on Tuesday which is a shame given their stellar form of late and the fact they produced a display of skill, determination and emotional maturity to hammer Herbrandson on Saturday (more of that later) and so too, was Goodwick’s potential league deciding clash against Hakin United.
Angle, who have struggled to put teams out recently, had to travel to Herbrandston and, despite goals from Sam Richards, Jake Seaton and Nick Willis, they went down 5-3 against the basement strugglers.
Mind you, if Angle’s form continues and Herbie pick up a few points along the way (even though they only have four games left), the teams could very well be swapping positions over the coming weeks.
The stop-start nature of mid-week fixtures can’t help, however, as no teams can find form or rhythm. It’s been a disjointed season at the best of times.
Narberth travelled to Merlins Bridge and were walloped 10-0, a staggering result considering the Bluebirds are fifth in the league.
In Tuesday’s division two matches, Saundersfoot beat Hundleton 4-0, while Kilgetty’s game at Johnston was postponed, as was Carew thirds’ game at Milford Athletic.
Conditions were slightly kinder on Saturday, although Angle were unable to raise a team for their home clash against Goodwick United, while Carew were on fire at Herbrandston, winning 9-0.
The result was all the more remarkable given the club was reeling from the news of club legend Aled Davies’s death and even more so considering Aled’s son Tom was playing.
It was a day full of emotion for the team, although they put that to one side to pay the best tribute possible to win 9-0.
Jordan Richards scored four and Scott Fearney three alongside an own goal and one by Ian Derbyshire.
Herbie had a chance to pull one back when they were awarded a penalty which Tom Davies saved, a feat that was not lost on his team-mates given the circumstances under which he was playing.
Goals by Danno Kitts and Billy Davies were not enough to prevent Lamphey from going down 4-2 at home against Clarbeston Road, while Narberth went down 4-0 at home against Hakin United.
In the derby fixture between Pennar and Monkton, the result went the home team’s way, despite Monkton having the better record this season.
Mike Ryder scored twice for the Robins, with other goals coming from Carl Rees and Connor Roberts, while Jimmy Russell scored a brace for the Swifts.
In division two, Kilgetty managed a 3-3 draw with Hakin United seconds, while goals from Joe Kidney and Phil Cole were not enough for Lawrenny as they lost 3-2 to Johnston.
Dylan Davies was again on form for Hundleton as he helped them win 2-0 at Merlins Bridge seconds.
Saundersfoot seconds won 2-0 at Solva, while goals from Steve Thomas and Will Evans helped St. Clears to a 2-1 win at home over Fishguard Sports.
In division three, Pendine went down to a sorry 11-0 defeat at Camrose, while Carew seconds lost 5-2 at home to Broad Haven, with Rees Davies and Harvey Langstone scoring for the Rooks.
If Pendine’s defeat was bad, then Manorbier United’s was even worse after they lost 15-0 at Goodwick United seconds, while there was no shortage of goals at Pembroke Boro as they beat Narberth seconds 7-3.
Stuart Slater scored twice for the hosts and Jake Campbell a hat-trick, with the other goals coming from Jordan Wright and Jason Beynon.
For Narberth, the goals came from Jordan Thomas, Mark Hughes and Callum O’Connor.
Meanwhile, at St Florence, the home team went down 4-1 against Pennar Robins’ seconds as Lewis Desforges scored their only goal.
Pennar Robins thirds’ game at Broad Haven seconds was postponed, while Kilgetty seconds won 6-1 at home to Solva thanks to four goals from Steve Davies and one apiece from Ben Harries and Carl Griffiths.
Monkton Swifts’ seconds beat Herbrandston 9-0, while St. Clears’ seconds won 7-0 at Neyland seconds.
Angle seconds were unable to raise a side for their clash at St. Ishmaels’ seconds.
Meanwhile, in division five, goals from Grant James and Joel Reed ensured Carew thirds beat Johnston seconds 2-1, while a hat-trick from Dalton Boswell and one each for Gavin Wickland, Luke Wickland and Nathan Ferrier helped Cosheston beat Milford United 6-2.
Goals from Harry Thomas and Ryan Morton helped Lawrenny seconds beat their counterparts from Hundleton 2-1, with Lewis Callen scoring the hosts’ only goal.
Pembroke Boro seconds beat Milford United seconds 5-3, while Saundersfoot Sports’ seconds drew 7-7 with Letterston seconds in the most exciting clash of the day.
