TENBY Aces Cycling Club members Shaun Griffiths and his daughter Rhianne recently took part in a cycle challenge where they completed 100 miles in the inaugural Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event on the Olympic road race course.
They both completed the cycle ride in five hours and 31 minutes, finishing with a sprint for the finish line on the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace to the cheers of hundreds of supporters, among whom was Lisa, Shaun's wife.
Just under 16,000 cyclists completed the event, which took place on August 4.
"It was an amazing experience," said Shaun.
"A warm sunny day starting at the Olympic Park at 7 am and cycling past famous landmarks in London, through Richmond Park, passing Hampton Court Palace and taking on the famous Box Hill, returning through Wimbledon and Putney and passing the Houses of Parliament.
"The support along the whole route was fantastic and there must have been tens of thousands of marshals ensuring our safety as we cycled at our race pace to complete the course in a respectable time.
"Finishing on the Mall was just like finishing in Tudor Square earlier this summer on the Wales Sportive, the same enthusiastic welcome, but a very different famous place," he continued.
Shaun wishes to thank family, friends, Aces members, fellow cyclists and colleagues, for their donations which have helped him raise £700 for the Anthony Nolan Charity. Post race donations are still welcome and accepted at http://www.justgiving.com/Shaun-Griffiths2">www.justgiving.com/Shaun-Griffiths2.
