In Welsh triathlon, first came LCW (Long Course Weekend) and then IMW (Ironman Wales) and now there’s a new event DCHIC (Dennis Cafe/Darren Creese Half Iron Challenge).

On Saturday, July 8, local triathlete Darren Creese will complete the distance of a half iron triathlon in Tenby raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Research.

Starting off at 8 am on the South Beach, he will swim 1.1 miles to the Castle Beach. He will then run to the Dennis Café and hop on his bike attached to a turbo and cycle 56 miles. Lastly, he will get on to a treadmill, generously provided by Neil Duffy, to run the 13 miles to complete the half iron distance triathlon.

There will be a bucket for cash donations, but also sponsorship forms to fill in. Please feel free to pop along to donate, cheer or just enjoy a cuppa at a great locally owned business. Donations can also be made via his Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/Darren-Creese1

Darren started on his journey in triathlon when he ran the Wales Marathon in 2013 raising funds for Cancer Research following the death of his mother, Valerie Scone, due to cancer. He then completed Ironman Wales in 2014 and is competing in this year’s Ironman Wales Pembrokeshire, also raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Darren chose the Dennis Café as he worked nine seasons there in school/university holidays, following in his mother’s footsteps, who had worked there many years before.
