It’s a shame the game between Cresselly and Carew wasn’t streamed live on the internet as it was the top billed game of the day and it didn’t disappoint.

With Carew looking to bounce back against their rivals after losing to them in the Village Cup just a week before, all eyes were on Cresselly to see if the hosts could manage two wins in a week against their arch rivals.

They did, and they had a former Carew player to thank for their success.

Adam Chandler hasn’t hit the lofty heights of the previous two seasons yet this year but he chose a great time to find a welcome return to form with a wonderfully crafted 118 in reply to the hosts 250-7.

His innings helped his team win by six wickets as Simon Cole ended up on 54 not out after Phil Williams’s 48.

Carew had posted 250-7, a good score even on such a good batting wicket, as Shaun Whitfield smashed 66 not out, Tim Hicks 65 and Tom Scourfield 45.

Ryan Lewis and Dan James each took three wickets for Cresselly.

Cresselly weren’t daunted, however, as Chandler took control.

Not even Tom Davies with 2-47 could help stem the flow of runs as Cresselly closed the gap on the league leaders to 24 points to throw the title race open once again.

Down the road at Lawrenny and the home side had the better of a drawn match against Kilgetty.

Batting first, the home side made 216-9 thanks to Steve Lewis’s 39, Harry Thomas’s 50 and Brad McDermott-Jenkins’s 26.

In reply, Kilgetty stuttered to 125-5, with Ian Poole unbeaten on 37, while Kyle and Kurtis Marsh hit 29 and 27, respectively.

Pembroke went down to their fifth defeat of the season against Johnston who picked up their first win of the campaign thanks in no small part to Daniel Sutton’s 128, his fourth ton of the season.

Johnston scored 283-8, with Billy Wood and Colin James claiming three wickets each.

In reply, Pembroke were all out for 131, despite Barry Evans’s 37 and Rob Hearne’s 31 not out.

Defeat for Whitland, too, with a 29-run loss at Neyland, the Borderers being all out for 186 in reply to the home team’s 215-6.

Matthew Davies took 3-40 and scored 35 for the away team, with Greg Sleep hitting 26 and Wayne Howells 52.

He may still be playing U15 cricket, but Tom Mansbridge is making waves in the adult game as he struck a magnificent 115 not out against Burton.

His innings helped his team to 254-6, with Sam Franklin hitting 48 and Nick Cope 49.

James Caine then took 4-17, Mansbridge 2-32 and Cope 2-57 as Burton closed on 216-7.

Robbie Hicks was back playing for Carew seconds and proved what a fabulous player he has been over the years with a score of 41 against Llanrhian.

His innings together with 61 not out from Dafydd Bevan and 24 not out from Haydn Shapcott ensured the nine-wicket win after the Cows could only muster 133-6.

At Whitland, the home side lost to Llechryd by 10 wickets after Whitland scored 153-6 thanks to Gethin Scourfield’s 40 and Jonathan Thomas’s 35.

John Curran then hit 109 not out in the reply, his second consecutive century.

At Narberth, the home side remain second after a five-wicket win over Stackpole.

The Lillies hit 174-9 thanks to Simon Bevans’s 70 not out and James Adie’s 32, with Ben Quartermaine taking three wickets and Jordan Howell two.

In reply, Richie Adams hit 45, Kyle Quartermaine the same, while Ben was unbeaten on 40 at the end.

In division three, Cresselly seconds looked to be heading for defeat at Hook as the hosts looked to be cruising towards their target of 177, but a flurry of wickets resulted in the game ending as a tie.

Cresselly scored 176-8 after Matthew Webb’s 71, Neal Williams’s 29 and Richard Harris’s 24, but it was Matthew Lewis who brought them back into the game with his 5-30 haul.

Lawrenny seconds went down to defeat against Haverfordwest thirds, although they made the Town work hard for their win.

Lawrenny were all out for 120, with Adrian Harries hitting 31 and despite Julian Arthur taking 3-19, the home team scraped past the post for the loss of seven wickets.

There was a crazy result at Lamphey as the hosts were skittled for just 77 against Pembroke Dock thanks to birthday boy Connor Carroll’s 5-11.

On the day in which he turned 17. he rattled the home team’s batting for a deserved haul of wickets.

If it wasn’t for Grant Cole’s 27 and Lewis Haines’s 22, the home team would have scored even less. John Cumani and James White shared four wickets between them.

In reply, Peter McGilloway took 4-12, Hywel Gibbs 3-15 and Scott Brunton 3-17 to help bowl the Dock out for 55.

Craig Butland top scored with 19.

In division four, Pembroke seconds lost to Crymych by eight wickets after the home side scored 148-7 in which Nigel Phillips scored 44. The Mountain Men had few problems in passing the total.

Hundleton beat Hook seconds by four wickets as they overcame Hook’s 145-8.

Jonathan Williams took 5-28 and scored 47 not out for Hundleton, with Paul Fox hitting 36.

Earlier, Nick Absalom had figures of 9-9-0-1 for Hook!

Kilgetty seconds lost the derby game against Narberth by 140 runs as Narberth smashed them for 227-8 after Kyle Williams’s 69, Chris Spratt’s 54 and David John’s 54.

In reply, Nick Evans took 6-22 as Kilgetty were all out for 87, with Jack Waters hitting 33.

Saundersfoot seconds went down by five wickets at Llechryd seconds after they were all out for just 69.

Meanwhile, in division five, Cresselly thirds racked up the runs against 10-man Pembroke Dock seconds, hitting 272-6 on Maurice Leyland’s fast-scoring ground.

The Dock’s fielders had little chance of stopping Rhydian Rees, who hit 110 not out, and Sion Jenkins, who struck 52 not out, after Tim Webb’s 59.

In reply, the Dock were all out for a paltry 48 as Jenkins took 4-5.

Stackpole seconds could only manage 100-4 against Haverfordwest thirds as they went down to a seven-wicket defeat, while Carew thirds beat Neyland thirds by four wickets after Neyland were all out for 118.

Rhys Grigg took 4-23 for Carew and Carl Thomas 3-12, while in reply, Jeremy Griffiths hit 27 and Morgan Grieve 21 not out.

Not even British Lion Mike Phillips could help Whitland thirds at Laugharne as the Borderers lost to the hosts by five wickets.

Whitland scored 115 all out, with Phillips hitting 24 and Paul John 21 as Kevin Pearce took 3-21 against his former team-mates.

He was in the runs, too, hitting 56 not out as Laugharne strolled to victory.
