To score one century in senior cricket at age 15 is impressive, to score two in a season and then follow it up with four wickets even more so, yet that’s what Saundersfoot’s Tom Mansbridge managed at Llanrhian last Saturday.
His brilliant innings of 142 not out (his second ton of the season) against the beleaguered Cows highlighted once again his undoubted potential both with the bat and ball given the home team’s batsmen could not cope with his bamboozling left arm leg spinners.
He helped his team amass 254-3 with Sam Franklyn also scoring 77.
Along with Mansbridge’s four wickets, elder brother John took two and as the hosts were all out for 134.
Elsewhere in Division Two, Stackpole moved out of the relegation zone with a win at home to Llechryd.
Richard McKay’s 72 not out helped the Lillies reach 148-9 and then Alan Webster’s 4-26 and Marcus Adie’s 3-43 helped bowl Llechryd out five runs short of victory.
Carew seconds went down by nine wickets at home to Burton. Carew scored 171 all out thanks to Robbie Hicks’s 50, but a century by Martin Jones helped see Burton home.
Whitland seconds went down by two wickets away at table topper Llangwm. Whitland were all out for 126 with Llangwm just scraping home.
In Division One, Carew held on for a draw at Neyland after the home team reached 183-8, with Rhys Davies, Ceri Brace and Tom davies all taking two wickets.
Carew then shut up shop on 161-7 thanks to Rhys Davies’s 51.
Cresselly are hot on their heels for the championship after they hammered Whitland bowling the Borderers out for 83 and then passing it for the loss of three wickets.
Dan James took 5-21 against his former club and Tom Arthur 4-17, before 36 from Iwan Izzard and an unbeaten 34 from Adam Chandler saw them home.
There was a dramatic game at Kilgetty after the home team were shot out for just 61 against Haverfordwest.
The Town were then reduced to 35-5 in rely before they crept home for the loss of six wickets.
Lawrenny all but cemented their place in Division One for next season with a six wickets win at Johnston who were all out for 137 thanks to Robert Williams’s 5-23 and Harry Thomas’s 3-25.
Joe Kidney then scored 69 not out in the winning reply.
Another weekend and another defeat for Pembroke who will be glad to see the end of this season given the struggles they have faced. They lost by nine wickets at home against St. Ishmaels after being bombed out for 102.
In Division Three, Lamphey beat Neyland by three wickets.
Neyland scored 124 all out thanks to three wickets each for Dean Lawrence and Andrew Skeels.
Lawrence then stood unbeaten on 51 as seven wickets fell around him in the winning reply.
Pembroke Dock would have had high hopes of victory against Herbrandston after posting 159-9 (despite only having nine men), but the visitors’ batting proved too powerful and they ended up losing by seven wickets.
Jake Davies scored 75 for the Dock on his first appearance of the season, while Peter Kingdom hit 39.
County chairman Paul Webb took 6-14 and son Bobby 2-24 against Llanrhian seconds who were bowled out for 100 against Cresselly seconds.
The hosts had no issues in passing the total reaching 104-1 thanks to 39 not for Bobby Kinnear and 26 not out for Richard Harris and 31 for Scott Arthur.
Victory for Lawrenny seconds too after they reached 144-1 in reply to Johnston seconds’ 142-6.
Steve Campbell scored 69no for Lawrenny and Julian Arthur 48, while Matthew Lewis took 2-41.
In Division Four, Narberth seconds were all out for 150 at home to Hook seconds who reached the total for the loss of seven wickets.
David Johns hit 64 for Narberth, while Rob Webb took 3-29.
Saundersfoot seconds beat Hundleton by eight wickets after Hundleton were all out for 106 thanks to Chris Hawkes and Corey Morris both taking three wickets each.
Chris Stapleton scored 31 not out for Hundleton but 44 from Hawkes and 31 not out for Steve Cook saw Saundersfoot home.
Kilgetty seconds went down by 43 runs at Llechryd seconds who scored 159-7 in their innings, while there was no game between St. Ishmaels’ seconds and Pembroke seconds.
Meanwhile, in Division Five, Cresselly thirds (88-10) lost by five wickets at Haverfordwest fourths, Neyland thirds (52-1) beat Pembroke Dock seconds (46-10) and Carew thirds (169-7) hammered Stackpole seconds by 110 runs.
