This year’s conclusion to the Thomas Carroll Pembroke County Cricket League was just as exciting as last year’s.

There may not have been any infamous declarations but there were still plenty of talking points and once again the majority involved Cresselly.

Last year they were at the wrong end of the Carew declaration, a decision that cost Cresselly the chance of league silverware and this year they were at the wrong end of a dynamic performance by Lawrenny that avenged defeat in the Harrison-Allen final and ensured a second league win over the Doves.

Batting first they scored 252-8 with Brad Jenkins leading the way scoring 97 alongside Steve Lewis’ 51, Ryan Lewis taking 3-51 for Cresselly.

In reply the hosts were doing well until a flurry of wickets gave Lawrenny the momentum and they eventually prevailed by 24 runs with Adam Chandler hitting a half century.

Kilgetty avoided the drop into division two last year because Carew were banished for the declaration but there were no such get out of jail cars this time around with defeat at Whitland costing them even though they had a 15 point cushion over Burton.

Burton overcame the challenge of St Ishmaels meaning they stayed up instead.

Whitland hit 184-7 in reply to Kilgetty’s 181-9, Matthew Davies scoring 59 and taking 3-36 for the Borderers while Kurtis Mash hit 58 for Kilgetty.

Carew and Saundersfoot both celebrated promotion to division one with wins over Haverfordwest 2nds and Cresselly 2nds respectively.

Carew won by nine wickets chasing 90 all out thanks to Tom Davies’ unbeaten 40 while Saundersfoot won by 87 runs hitting 196 all out with Nicky Cope scoring 64 and Kevin Sykes taking four wickets to help bundle Cresselly out for 109.

Stackpole beat Pembroke yet still went down to division three as Llechryd beat Narberth meaning the Lillies were pipped at the post by just two points.

Stackpole scored 179 all out thanks to Simon Bevan’s 53 while in reply Pembroke were skittled for 111, Iwan McDonald taking 5-33.

Whitland seconds lost to Hook by six wickets after reaching just 150-7 in their allotted overs, Wayne Jones scoring 39.

Narberth seconds finished with a bang, beating Haverfordwest thirds by four wickets after overcoming the Town’s 80 all out.

Kyle Quartermaine hit 38 for Narberth while David Johns took 4-15,

Pembroke Dock secured promotion to division two with a seven wicket win over Lamphey keeping Lamphey to a paltry 89-9 in their 40 overs.

Grant Cole top scored for the Stags scoring 18 while Connor Carroll and James White shared six wickets.

Lawrenny seconds won too beating Llanrhian by four wickets as they chased down the Cows’ 157-8. Julian Arthur hit 42 for Lawrenny and took 3-23.

A win for Carew seconds too, well, a win in all but name as they hammered Llechryd seconds yet because Llechryd seconds were not all out it’s classed as a draw which many believe is outdated, unfair and ridiculous.

Carew scored 228-9 after Yori Hicks scored 57 while Llechryd finished on 116-6.

In division four, a fabulous 121 not out by Andrew Edwards meant Laugharne scored 309-3 against Burton seconds who were all out for 31 in reply.

Relegated Hundleton drew with St Ishmaels’ seconds reaching 180-7 in reply to Tish’s 259-5, Jonathan Williams scoring 76 while LLanrhian seconds lost to Saundersfoot Seconds after Saundersfoot bowled the hosts out for 71 thanks to Toby Pappachan and Tom Mansbridge taking a brace of wickets each. Yannik Parker scored 37 not out in the reply.

Finally, in division five, Carew thirds beat Cresselly thirds by eight wickets after Cresselly were all out for 96. Ashley Smith and Tim Hicks took three wickets each for Carew while Alan Townsend hit 32 in the winning reply.

Kilgetty seconds beat Neyland thirds by seven wickets.

Neyland were all out for 89 after Sami Rossiter took 4-20 while andrew Evans hit 30 not out in the winning reply.

Stackpole seconds lost by nine wickets at Haverfordwest fourths, hitting 88-8 in their overs.

In the first innings, Whitland totalled 97-6. Five batsmen got into double figures, but none was able to build an innings to boost the Whitland total.

In reply Haverfordwest had a small lead of 14 runs with a total of 111-4.

The wickets were shared between the Bowen brothers as Conor took 3-22 and Jack picked up the other wicket to fall.

In the second innings, Whitland reached 103-7. The main contributors were Gethin Scourfield with 24 and the experienced David Lee who scored 20 before being run out.

Haverfordwest decided to take the pace off the ball. It proved a success as slow left armer Nigel Morgan was both economical and penetrative with 3-17 from five overs and off spinner Clive Tucker took 2-31.

The Town need 90 to win and reached a winning total of 90-4 after 17 overs. Josh Hicks and Ross Dewstowe provided the backbone for the run chase. Hicks scored 33no with three sixes and one four whilst Dewstowe scored 29 with a brace of sixes and one four.

Conor Bowen, Ben Harvey and Jack Bowen picked up a wicket each.

The Cresselly duo of Stefan Jenkins and Neal Williams acted as Man of the Match adjudicators.

The pair selected Sanjay Gurung as Man of the Match for his all round contribution to the Haverfordwest victory.
