Narberth travelled to Cresselly on Saturday with just nine men after two of their players failed to show up and they paid the price by going down by eight wickets.
Trying to stem the flow of runs from an in-form batsman like Adam Chandler is difficult enough with 11 players, but with nine it’s virtually impossible and he sped to an undefeated 85 in Cresselly’s run chase after Narberth reached 171-6.
Ben Quartermaine scored 51 for the visitors and Jordan Howell 44, but Chandler and Iwan Izzard (62) showed no mercy as the hosts eased to a win.
Defeat means Narberth are only 14 points clear of Johnston who are second from bottom with two games to play.
Lawrenny had no issues in beating relegated Llanrhian who were dismissed for 112 after Rob Williams took 6-48. Harry Thomas then hit an unbeaten 71 and Steven Campbell 32 to lead the Gavenyards home.
Carew won handsomely at home to Whitland who were all out for 112 after Yori Hicks took 3-10 and Tom Davies 3-31. Sean Whitfield then sped to 51, while Davies hit 23 in the winning reply.
In division two, Carew seconds may have scored 208 all out against Burton, but they still lost by six wickets. Haydn Shapcott scored 51 and took 2-26 for the visitors, while Luke Hicks struck 37 and Joel Rhead 34 in the defeat.
It was a high scoring game between Stackpole and Cresselly seconds after the Lilies posted 233-6 thanks to Rob Mathias’s 58, Josh Davies’s 79 and John Williams’s 39. Marcus Adie then took 3-50 in Cresselly’s reply of 209-8 after Richard Harris, who earlier took 3-64 hit 55 and Neal Williams 44, while Jim Kinear struck 33.
Kilgetty remain top after their 10th win of the season following victory against Llangwm who were all out for 87 after Ross Hardy took 2-33 and Kurtis Marsh 3-23.Marsh then hit an unbeaten 46 and Hardy 36 in the nine-wicket win.
Pembroke are second after win number nine with a six-wicket victory over Whitland seconds. Whitland hit 124-9, with Jack Harries taking 4-49 and Lewys Wilkes 3-10, but 60 from Phil Hay and 24 not out from Barry Evans saw them home.
Earlier, Wayne Jones hit 33 for the hosts and Geraint Phillips 31.
Pembroke Dock lost in the last over against Crymych who, despite already being relegated managed, to put a full strength team out to score 230-4. The hosts were then all out for 195, with Peter Kingdom hitting 57 and Craig Butland 69.
Lamphey were denied a win against Lawrenny seconds who held on for a draw in reply to the Stags’ 190-9. David Blackwell hit 44 for the home team and Dean Lawrence 41 and skipper James Skeels 30 as Ryan Morton took 4-37 and Steve Cole 2-34. Adrian Harris then hit 31 and Hugh Griffiths 28 as Lawrenny reached 123-9 after Andrew Skeels took 4-16 and Dean Lawrence and Hywel Gibbs two each.
Saundersfoot are promoted and they showed their class with a 179-run win over Neyland seconds. The hosts scorched their way to 234-7 thanks to Paul Mansbridge’s 39 and John Mansbridge’s 64. Sam Franklyn then took 8-19 - including five wickets in one over - to bowl Neyland out for just 55.
In division four, Hundleton drew with Burton seconds as they hung on for 115-8 in reply to Burton’s 190-5. Jonathan Williams scored 43 for the hosts.
Mike Johns hit 60 not out for Narberth seconds and Sean Thomas 23 in their defeat against Carew thirds who won by seven wickets. Narberth scored 129-8, while Carew hit 133-3 thanks to Ashley Smith’s 62 not out and Rhys Canton’s 47. Canton also took 3-26.
Pembroke seconds lost by eight wickets against Saundersfoot seconds despite Simon Smith-Wrench’s 90. Pembroke scored 193-5, but 77 not out from Steve Cook and 75 not out from Yannick Parker ensured an easy win for the visitors.
Kilgetty seconds won the battle of the big guns in division five as they beat leaders St. Ishmaels’ seconds by 121 runs. Kilgetty hit 216-5, with Ian Poole hitting 53 and Jack Tucker 86 not out, and then 5-16 by Ollie Campbell ensured the win as Tish were all out for 95.
Pembroke Dock seconds were hammered by Llangwm seconds who hit 293-3 and then bowled the Dock out for 77.
Meanwhile, Cresselly thirds lost to third-placed Stackpole seconds by seven wickets as Cresselly scored 141-6 thanks to Peter Rice’s 30 and Sean Izzard’s 23. Stackpole then hit 144-3 as Hugh Davies scored 49 and Russell Roberts 62 not out. Huw Mason took 3-37 for the Lilies.
Finally, Whitland thirds beat Haverfordwest fourths by 13 runs as Whitland were all out for 87, with Edward John hitting 41, and then Haverfordwest were all out for 74, with Rhodri Rees taking 4-11.
