The Lords and Commons XI took on Cresselly in a charity fundraising match last Sunday afternoon. The match, which was sponsored by Valero who donated £1 per run scored to the Tom Maynard Trust, was played in brilliant sunshine, a direct contrast to last summer when the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Cresselly batted first on a perfect wicket and, despite some excellent bowling from ex-Glamorgan player Dan Cherry, Tim Bonner and Simon Hart, posted a superb total of 268 runs from their 40 overs. Both Phil Williams and Simon Cole scored half-centuries with some entertaining batting from Tom Arthur and Jamie Lewis at the end of the innings. The Lords and Commons XI fielded a team which included local celebrity Charles Dale behind the stumps. After a sumptuous tea, the Lords and Commons team came out to bat and got off to a steady start, with James Adie scoring 40 and, after being dismissed, was replaced by Dan Cherry, who stayed at the wicket until he retired 65 not out with two overs remaining (allowing other players to bat). Simon Hart took his place at the crease for the last over to face the bowling of Lyn Richards and promptly hit three fours, showing he had lost none of the skills he acquired at Cresselly many years ago! Cresselly won the match by 46 runs, with over £500 raised for the Tom Maynard Trust. Lords and Commons XI were represented by: Timothy Bonner, Jamies Adie, Richard Graham, Dan Cherry, Jonathan Edwards, Adam Hart, Rowley Graham, Charles Dale, Rory Manley and Simon Hart, with guest fielding appearances from Brad McDermott Jenkins. Cresselly CC were represented by: Phil Williams, Lyn Richards, Simon Cole, Brad McDermott-Jenkins, Johnny Palmer, Sean Izzard, Tom Arthur, Owen James, Luke Cole, Ryan Morton and Jamie Lewis.
