Pembrokeshire County Swimming held their annual general meeting at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre last month. An abundance of parents and swimmers attended the meeting, which was presided over by chairman Phil Thomas. Head coach Craig Nelson provided his first report in the position since his appointment in November 2013.

The chairman in his address thanked Gary Nicholas, of Pembrokeshire Leisure, for his continued support and outlined his hope to further develop the current strong links within the Aquatic Partnership. He followed this by thanking Craig Nelson, who had worked hard with the Performance squad and achieved some excellent results this year, in particular at the Welsh and British Nationals.

Former assistant coach, Chris Davies, who left to take up a position with Carmarthen Swimming Club, was thanked for his efforts and his replacement, Sam Jones, was welcomed into the fold.

He then made the following presentations of Chairman's Awards for last season to

Skills squad: male- Jake Edwards, Pembroke & District; female- Lauren Omne, Pembroke & District.

Potential squad: male - Ben Mottram, Haverfordwest Seals; female - Abbey Williams,Pembroke & District.

Performance squad: male - Jonathon Orchard, Pembroke & District; female - Louisa Twigg,Haverfordwest Seals.

Best overall: Daniel Davies, Tenby Dolphins

His thanks were extended to the officers and committee for their support and contribution, alongside Lorna Johns for maintaining the county website and Lorraine Saunders as county fundraising co-ordinator.

He also thanked the sponsors for 2013/14 for their support, namely NFU Mutual, Glyn Edwards and Bert Edwards Office equipment and printing, Big Brums, Green Bower, JT Motors, Gravells Motors, Laroc, Frames Photography and Fast Track Driving School.

Craig Nelson presented his report which was warmly received by those present. He highlighted that the county had attended 12 meets during the season, whilst he had the opportunity to be part of the Swim Wales coaching team for the Commonwealth Games and the British School Games (including three swimmers from Pembrokeshire, Jon Orchard, Jordan Harding and Daniel Davies).

He congratulated those who had been selected for Wales last season, namely Dan Davies, Ffion Davies, Kelsey Williams, Jordan Harding and Mikey Hire, before congratulating those selected for this season already, Louisa Twigg, Colm Tobin, Arabella Haley, Jordan Harding, Dan Davies, Jon Orchard, Dan Thomas and Nyle Lewis.

National Championship results: Swim Wales Winter Open LC (December 2013) - six gold medals, 12 silver, six bronze; Welsh Age Group Championship LC (April 2014) - eight gold medals, eight silver, 16 bronze; Welsh Summer Nationals LC (July/August 2014) - 14 gold medals, 15 silver, 12 bronze.

Some 175 out of 252 swims were personal bests.
