President of the West Wales Ladies Bowling Association Ceris Hewlings celebrated county finals day by winning two titles at her club, Saundersfoot, on Saturday.
Glorious sunshine blessed the occasion and a large crowd of spectators witnessed a feast of bowling.
Junior international Ysie White, of Tenby BC, retained the four-wood singles crown, beating her Welsh Under 25 team-mate Gemma Amos in a thrilling match which saw a determined fightback by Gemma, of the host club.
Saundersfoot members, club secretary Sue Roden and club captain Beryl Lewis both celebrated their first singles wins - in the two-wood and Autumn Cup, respectively - beating teenager Sara John Davies, of Haverfordwest, and Anne Cole, of Pembroke Dock.
Gemma bounced back after her singles defeat and partnered mum Steph to win the two-wood pairs title for the second year running, beating club-mates Gwenda Rees and Ann Lewis, while Marion Evans and Ceris Hewlings clinched the four-wood pairs in dramatic style, beating Whitland’s Kathy Jenner and Cally Jones on a nailbiting last end.
Pembroke Dock’s Cynthia Edwards, Jackie Church and Collette Bethwaite stormed to success in the triples, beating their own club colleagues, Anne Cole, Margaret Lewis and Barbara Rapley, while the rinks shield was retained by Gemma Amos, Marion Evans, Steph Amos and Ceris Hewlings, who all picked up their second trophy of the day after chalking up success against Welsh president and county secretary Ann Thomas, of Haverfordwest, and her rink of Margaret Lewis, Sandy Bevan and Julie Thorpe.
Thanks go to Saundersfoot vice-chairlady Di Rigden and the ladies of Saundersfoot for hosting the finals and preparing refreshments, Neville Ruff and Roy Kennion for setting out the green, Doug Silcox and Collette Bethwaite for umpiring and, most importantly, county competition secretary Ann Gray, of Fishguard, for arranging the day and overseeing the competitions throughout the day.
