On Saturday, Tenby hosted rivals Whitland in what was the first of the weekend’s double header between the top two teams in the Pembrokeshire league.
Both teams knew that whoever came out on top over the two games would likely go on to win the championship.
The Sharks had struggled in their previous two fixtures, losing away to Pembroke Dock, 79-78, and just beating their fellow Tenby Five Arches team, 67-66, with just one winning rink. But the boys in blue knew if they could show their class over the weekend, the league was there for the taking.
Before the match got underway, congratulations were in order as the Whitland triple of John Rees, Andrew Evans and Mikey John had won the Welsh Triples Championship up at Llandrindod Wells, which was an outstanding achievement, where they have made their club and county proud. Once the brief speeches were made, it was down to business.
Rink one saw Ryan Thomas and his rink of Cam White, Evan and Peter Day in action. They stayed level at 9-9 after the first 10 ends, but then went on to win every end in the second half, resulting in a 23-9 victory. This rink has been outstanding all season.
Rink two consisted of Paul Diment with Dion Peregrine, Andrew Morse, and Joe Richards. This was a close battle all the way through, where on the final end, the Sharks managed to pick up a three, resulting in a draw 17-all. Special mention to Andrew Morse as he had an outstanding game against his former club.
Rink three saw Andrew Muskett, who was with Mike Jackson, Charlie Morse and Chris Court. This was a great performance by all four players as they won comfortably 24-10.
Finally, rink four was Keiron Peregrine and his rink of Luke Rees, Ben Cloake and John Roberts. Unfortunately, the Tenby men let slip the led they had gained in the first half and were defeated by seven shots.
Overall it was an 11 points to three victory for the Tenby men, which was a great start to the weekend. But the real test was the following day away to Whitland. A victory there and it looked like the Sharks would win it, but the weather was not looking good, so playing conditions could also be a challenge for the Tenby boys if they were going to get a result. Tenby 82 Whitland 61.

On Sunday, the Sharks travelled to Whitland knowing that a win would likely put them in position for a 10th league championship in a row. The weather was awful, and it proved difficult to play in, but credit to Whitland BC as the green played fantastic. This proved to benefit the Sharks as the whole team produced a brilliant performance.
Rink one saw Ryan Thomas and his men, this time up against Andrew Evans’s rink. This rink seems to keep on producing the goods as they won 28-13. Special mention to Evan Day as he has played brilliantly in his first season of bowling.
Rink two featured Andrew Muskett, this time with Dicky Court, Charlie Morse, and Mike Jackson at third. They were up against Glyndwr Thomas once again, and it turned out to be a great weekend for Andrew as he did the double, winning 20-13.
Rink three saw Paul Diment and his rink, this time with Peter Hooper at second. This was another close game throughout, but they pulled away for a win by five shots. A great performance.
Finally, rink four consisted of John Roberts as skip, with Keiron Peregrine dropping down to third due to injury, Ben Cloake, and gold and silver Special Olympic medallist, Shaun Peregrine. The rink played very well, with John Roberts having a brilliant game, winning 28 shots to 17.
This resulted in a 38-shot victory for the Sharks, picking up the maximum 14 points. This was an incredible result which puts them in a great position with just one game remaining. Whitland can still win the league statistically, but a win for the Sharks in their last game against fellow members the Five Arches will win them the league.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Whitland skips only):
C. White, E. Day, P. Day, R. Thomas 28; A. Evans 13.
D. Peregrine, P. Hooper, J. Richards, P. Diment 22; M. John 17.
D. Court, C. Morse, M. Jackson, A, Muskett 20; G. Thomas 13.
B. Cloake, S. Peregrine, K. Peregrine, J. Roberts 28 S. Reese 17.
