TENBY FIVE ARCHES 58 (3 pts) SAUNDERSFOOT 98 (11)
Saundersfoot continued their unbeaten start to their league campaign with a convincing 40-shot win away to Tenby Five Arches last week.
The villagers were on top in the early stages, but after 15 ends, only held an 11-shot lead. A strong performance in the latter part of the match, however, saw them comfortably home to gain 11 of the 14 points which the teams were playing for.
On rink one, Don Poole, Paul Blayney, Mackie Brace and skip Steve Poole had a real battle with Viv John, Dave Lloyd, Dai Spencer and Simon Evans and found themselves nine shots adrift at one stage.
By virtue of winning five of the last eight ends, however, and restricting the home four to just three singles, this encounter ended in an honourable 19 shots all draw.
Rink two also saw a notable comeback by the villagers, with Roy Hooper, Brian Dooley, Brian Desmond and Steve Dick trailing by 11 shots with only four ends to play against the Jon Webb four.
Winning all four, however, and picking up nine shots led to a narrow defeat by 21 shots to 19.
Rinks three and four saw big victories for the Saundersfoot boys, between them winning by 42 shots. Dai Davies, Selwyn Price, Joe Dennis and Uncle Berwyn beat Mike Day, Tony Powling, Steve Davies and Arches captain Ashley Hooper by 28 shots to 14, whilst Graham Hughes, Neil Hensman, Alan Brain and Myrddin Dennis defeated their opponents skipped by Neil Dickinson by 32 shots to four.
