Saundersfoot v Pembroke Dock

The Dock’s annual visit to ‘Sunny’ Saundersfoot turned out to be just as miserable as the unseasonal weather - the match was played on a cool, blustery afternoon, but luckily the forecast of strong south-westerly winds and heavy rain for the Bristol Channel area did not materialise.

With both Saundersfoot and Pembroke Dock enjoying an impressive run of form of late, this clash promised to be a closely fought encounter between two sides battling to clinch third position in the league table. However, by the end of the afternoon, Saundersfoot, led by an ebullient Mackie Brace (club captain), had inflicted a crushing defeat on The Dock, winning by the colossal margin of 57 shots.

Fortunately, the formidable rink led by Richard Hissey prevented a complete whitewash and his four were probably the only ones to journey home with their heads held high.

Scores (Pembroke Dock first and Saundersfoot skips only):

Jerry Carroll, Paul Griffiths, Reg Thomas, Richard Hissey 24; Steve Dick 15.

Allistair Benn, Boyd Parry, Ken Edwards, Richard Jones 4; Brian Desmond 27;

Alan Yea, Karl Bierschenk, Tudor Harries, Brian Dowling 11 Myrddin Dennis 39;

Dave Finn, Hugh Colley, Hugh Williams, Matt John 9; Joe Dennis 24

Final Score: Pembroke Dock 48 shots (2 pts) Saundersfoot 105 (12).

Saturday brings the curtain down on the 2016 league season when Pendine visit the Memorial Park - let’s hope for a much better performance (can it be any worse)?

THE DOCK REPRESENTED AT NATIONAL FINALS

The Pembroke Dock pairing of Ken Edwards and Richard Jones represented Pembrokeshire in the Senior Pairs competition at the recent 2016 National Championships held at Llandrindod Wells, the Mecca of Welsh bowls.

On a bright, sunny Wednesday morning, they took on N. Immins and J. G. Evans, of New Quay BC, representing Ceredigion. In a tightly fought contest, Ken and Richard ran out winners by 18 shots to 14.

In the afternoon’s quarter-final, The Dock duo came up against D. Mogford and G. Congrieve, of Brynmawr BC. The Monmouthshire pairing mastered the exceptionally fast running surface quicker than Ken and Richard and hard as they tried they were unable to mount a realistic challenge, going down by 22 shots to 10.

CLUB FINALS DAY

The recent report of the club’s Finals Day unfortunately omitted to express appreciation to Richard Hissey who officiated as umpire throughout the day and did an excellent job from early morning to the end of play.
