Last week the Welsh National Finals were played at Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club, regarded by many as the Mecca of Welsh Bowls.

The trinity of Ken Chadwick, Ken Edwards and Richard Jones (Skip) represented Pembrokeshire in the final stages of the Senior Triples competition and were looking to retain the title won at the same venue in 2022.

On Wednesday morning they came up against a trio from Resolven BC. Excellent bowling by all three saw them progress to the second round when they comfortably beat a trio from Dinas Powys BC.

On Friday morning they played a threesome from Penygraig BC in the semi-final. Unfortunately, despite going into an early lead, the Pembroke Dock lads were unable to replicate the form they showed on Tuesday and went down to a 21 – 14 defeat.

Following two heavy defeats to Saundersfoot this season, The Dock travelled to the seaside on Saturday hoping to seek revenge.

As Storm Betty had already left Pembrokeshire, the first division contest was played on a sunny afternoon.

Fine bowling by both sides resulted in a closely fought battle played in an excellent spirit. This was undoubtedly the best performance in what has been a tough season.

The team returned home victorious following a narrow 78 – 76 victory, picking up 11 invaluable points.

In Division 2, the Warrior side had a busy weekend playing high flying Milford Haven on Saturday going down by 90 shots to 70, collecting just two points.

The following day the team travelled to Tenby to take on Tenby Five Arches where they were on the wrong end of an 86 – 67 scoreline, picking up another two points.

A difficult weekend for the Warrior team which contains players that have recently taken up the game. On Wednesday afternoon Pendine will be the visitors to the Memorial Park.

The Ladies section has seen a mixed bag of results recently with Pembroke Dock (Park) losing both home and away fixtures against Haverfordwest while Pembroke Dock achieved an excellent win against Neyland.

This weekend is Finals Weekend when players, including some who will be making their finals day debut, compete for several trophies.
