TENBY 106 (13 pts.)
MILFORD HAVEN 58 (1)
The Layton and Co Solicitors sponsored Tenby side entertained Milford Haven at Sutton Street last Sunday afternoon.
Captain Jon Webb and his side needed just five points to claim the league title, but with a few key players absent this was no means a 'done deal', especially after Milford's heroics the day before, in retaining their first division status.
On the show rink were Luke Rees, Aaron Lloyd, Mike Jackson and Peter Day. Four shots to three down after five ends, Peter and his men decided to go into overdrive and absolutely destroyed their opposition by a massive 35 shots.
Neil Dickinson, Bill Benham, Joe Richards and Luke Guymer were on rink two. Pitched against wily old skip Peter Collins, this was always going to be a tough contest for the home rink. The match was dominated by Luke and his men early on, but the away rink rallied in the second half, an honourable draw was the final outcome.
Rink three consisted of Gerald Hewitt, James Criddle, Dai Spencer and Jon Webb. The Tenby four always just had the upper hand throughout this encounter and emerged three-shot winners.
Last up on the outer rink was Cameron White, Colin Jones, John Baggott and Paul Diment. Close early on, but the Tenby four moved away in the latter half to win by 10 shots.
A 13 points to one victory for the home side confirmed the 2012 Pembrokeshire league title was once again lifted by the Tenby team. This is the fifth season in a row that the championship has finished up at Sutton Street. A delighted captain Jon Webb thanked his players for their support and commitment throughout the season, but reminded them there was still one more fixture to fulfil on Saturday, September 15, against Saundersfoot.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Milford skips only):
Luke Rees, Aaron Lloyd, Mike Jackson, Peter Day 46; G. Wood 11.
Neil Dickinson, Bill Benham, Joe Richards, Luke Guymer 17; P. Collins 17.
Gerald Hewitt, James Criddle, Dai Spencer, Jon Webb 22; T. Ellyatt 19.
Cameron White, Colin Jones, John Baggott, Paul Diment 21; D. Griffiths 11.
Milford Haven 82 Five Arches 61
Another disappointing day for the Five Arches. We were hoping for a miracle to avoid relegation, but alas no joy. However, on the positive side, there were a number of bright performances which bodes well for next season.
On rink two, Ben was reunited with Ray and Steve after a long absence and with Stuart playing well at lead, they had a great victory against the experienced Roy Thomas. After a close start, they edged away to win by 19 shots to 16, with Ben demonstrating his whole array of skills.
Ashley and his rink of Howard, Johno and Ken were involved in a similar match on the adjoining rink. Evenly poised at tea, the match hinged on the loss of five shots on the 18th end having just retaken the lead. They eventually lost by 22 shots to 18.
Clive and his rink of John, Joe and Tony were involved in an even tighter tussle. Close all the way through, the match was decided on the final end. The Five Arches quartet were leading by two shots, but a great last bowl by the opposing skip enabled Milford to pick up three shots and edge the win by 18 shots top 17.
Finally on rink five, Harold and his rink of Mike, Jim and Tony were blown away by an opening salvo of 18 unanswered shots in the first seven ends. The Five Arches boys then settled down and battled well, but could not pull back that initial barrage and finished losing by 26 shots to seven.
It has been a long, hard season, but hopefully next year we can bounce back and enjoy another promotion battle.
Rink scores (Five Arches first, Milford skips only) were:
Stuart Askew, Steve Davies, Ray Taylor, Ben Simmons 19; R. Thomas 16.
Howard Jordan, John Hubbard, Ken Lloyd, Ashley Hooper 18; T. Ellyatt 22.
John Rees, Joe Hewitt, Tony Brown, Clive Webb 17; B. Davies 18.
Mike Gouldingay, Jim Taylor, Tony Powling, Harold Ebdon 7; G. Barrett 26.

BATH AND BRISTOL BARBARIANS 105
It was a pleasure to welcome the visitors to the green. On tour for the week, they were enjoying their visit to the county, and looking forward to the game.
On one, Steve D's rink got off to a shaky start, and at tea were down by seven shots. Things did improve after the break, but they trailed by four at the end.
The game on two was as close as you could get. Again well down at tea, Ray and his rink fought back and were two behind going into the last where they picked up three for victory. Carol even did a little skip to celebrate.
It was down to Tony and his rink to compete against the visitors' strongest four. They were just behind at tea, and were trailing by six at the close.
On rink four, Steve and his mates were all-square after 12 ends, but then hit a purple patch when they scored counts of four, five, and then three counts of two, for a comfortable win.
It was good to see Vera on the green again, and with Ashley's support, she and her rink finished up eight ahead.
And finally on rink six, it was Alison and her rink who fell foul of the break for tea. Seven shots up, they failed to score on the next seven ends, and were nine down with two ends to play. The five shots they picked up on those two ends actually won the game, so it was smiles all round.
The visiting captain, Una, generous in defeat, thanked everyone for their warm welcome and hospitality.
Rink scores (visiting skips only) were as follows:
J. Taylor, F. Broomhead, G. Beeken, S. Davies 12; L. Dunsten 16.
R. French, C. Lloyd, J. Rees, R. Taylor 20; J. Williams 19.
S. Askew, L. Davies, K. Lloyd, T. Powling 14; U. Williams 20.
C. Scourfield, R. Duncome, D. Brickle, S. Jame 22; Cath 13;
R. Hine, I. French, A. Hooper, V. Williams 23; C. Harding 15.
M. Skyrme, E. Davies, H. Meades, A. Redman 18; Danny 22.
Quote of the week: Lead, his rink already nine shots down, "Where would you like to me to put the jack skip?"
"I'd put it in your pocket if I were you!"
ROSSITER/VALERO TOURNAMENTS
The annual Rossiter Tournament, played alternately at Tenby and Saundersfoot Bowling Clubs, unfortunately fell foul of the torrential rain on Bank Holiday Monday and was abandoned without a wood being bowled on the Sutton Street green.
Hopefully there will be an improvement in the weather for this weekend's Valero (Chevron) Pairs Tournament which gets underway tomorrow (Saturday).
