Whitland 16 pts. Llanharan 10
Whitland welcomed Llanharan to Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn last Saturday and completed the double over the Dairymen, having won away by 23 points to 21 and winning another close tussle by 16 points to 10 to consolidate their third place in Swalec League division one west.
Whitland played with the advantage of a bitterly cold wind in the first half and centre James Stephenson used it well, kicking an early penalty after three minutes when the visiting back line was caught offside.
He doubled his side's lead some six minutes later after a high tackle.
Llanharan's scrum-half Chris Williams kicked a penalty after 16 minutes, having missed one earlier, before Whitland scored their only try of the game on 25 minutes.
When the ball went loose on halfway, skipper and scrum-half Andrew Jenkins made a half break, with great support work from second row Aidan Laxton, who put Fraser Watson away to score in the corner. James Stephenson slotted the conversion, which was the last score of the half, with Whitland going in at the break 13 points to three up.
In the second half, Llanharan played pressure rugby, but Whitland's defence held strong, until five minutes from time that is, when flamker Scott Malone scored the visitors' only try, which Chris Williams converted.
They felt then that perhaps an upset was on the cards, but Whitland finished the stronger and James Stephenson slotted a last second penalty, with help from the crossbar, to give the Borderers a deserved victory.
