Narberth 4 Blaenymaes 2
Narberth progressed in the West Wales Cup with an impressive win over Blaenymaes at Jesse Road last Saturday. Blaenymaes are currently top of the Swansea League Division One and, with Narberth having suffered a couple of big defeats recently, this game was always going to be a another big test for the Bluebirds.
Blaenymaes played some good football and were the better team in the first half, but they only had one goal to show for their efforts at half-time.
The second half belonged to Narberth and player/manager Matthew Price levelled matters from close range.
Narberth substitute Jordan Williams made an immediate impact, as he was brought down for a penalty. Unfortunately for Narberth, Tony Evans saw his spot-kick saved.
The home side continued to press and Dorian Davies gave Narberth the lead as his free-kick went through the wall and into the bottom corner.
The lead didn't last long, as a rash challenge inside the Narberth penalty area by Tony Evans gave Blaenymaes the opportunity to level matters from the spot.
In the 87th minute, Matthew Price was brought down and another penalty was awarded to Narberth. Price sent the 'keeper the wrong way to put Narberth in front again.
The closing moments saw Blaenymaes pushing everybody forward, which allowed Narberth to counter-attack and Ashley Williams rounded the 'keeper and scored to put Narberth through to round three.
Narberth: John Durbridge, Richard Henton, Iestyn Scourfield (Jordan Williams), Toby Lancaster, Justin Blewitt, Raff Barnett, Dorian Davies, Ashley Williams, Tony Evans (Morgan Preece), Matthew Price, Adi Jones.
