Yet another giraffe has joined the collection at Folly Farm to put Pembrokeshire's own group of the magnificent creatures amongst the best in the UK.

Eight-year-old Zulu has arrived at the park from Flamingo Land in Yorkshire to take up residence with his half-brothers Rafiki, Ja Ja, Taharqa and Kharma.

And the quartet of gentle giants have found themselves looking up to this latest recruit, as Zulu stands a towering 19-feet high and weighs well over a ton.

"He is a big boy and looks absolutely fantastic," said zoo manager Tim Morphew.

"He's very relaxed, calm and friendly and it's interesting to see how he and Rafiki are competing to be the boss of the herd."

A £1million investment has been made by Folly Farm in the acquisition of the giraffes - all hybrid Rothschild males, who have been grouped together as part of a European programme to prevent cross-breeding.

'The boys', as they are known, are the first to go on show in Wales and their lofty presence helped to send Folly Farm's Easter visitor numbers soaring to an all-time high.

Added Tim: "The boys certainly make a stunning sight all together, and we're proud that we now have possibly the largest collection of male giraffes anywhere in Britain."
