Pembrokeshire youth workers are among the best in Wales after winning a national award for the third year running.

The dynamic staff of the Families First Funded Targeted Youth Team came out tops in the Best Employer Engagement Project at the annual Welsh Government Youth Work in Wales Excellence Awards.

The project involved a partnership with Burns Pet Foods where young people were engaged on three weeks of work experience learning every stage of the process from farm to production and on to retail.

Youth participation worker Nadine Farmer also had a night to remember after being crowned runner-up in the ‘Outstanding Youth Worker’ category.

Nadine has helped many of the most disadvantaged young people within our community to access services and get involved in decision making.

She also supports youth forums and youth councils across Pembrokeshire and has led on intergenerational projects and other initiatives.

Cabinet member for education and safeguarding, Clr. Sue Perkins, said the awards were no less than the team deserved after they continuously strive to provide the best service for the youth of Pembrokeshire.

“We’re lucky to have this team in Pembrokeshire,” she said.

“They are dedicated to providing the best service they can to the youth of the county and they are always trying to improve.

“The team managers are exceptional and they encourage the staff to come up with progressive ideas that shine through, and deliver what they intend to and we can all learn from that.”
